Married by Mistake is about 25 year-old Casey who went on reality TV to get her longtime boyfriend to finally marry her. Casey was only settling for Joe. Joe turns her down, breaks her heart but TV executive Adam is there. He sees a beautiful women gett...more

Another Beach Read

Pretty typical Harlequin novel. Not rich beauty meets and marries rich tycoon. The twist is that this time it was a slight accident.

This one was kinda fun...until the end. (view spoiler)[No, seriously. Major spoiler(view spoiler)[Suddenly at the end the hero wanted a baby and the heroine couldn't have any. WTF? It came out of left field. Of course, deus ex machina arrives and saves the day. (hide spoiler)] (hide spoiler)]

This was the cutest book! It literally made me laugh out loud as I read it.....this book should be a movie it's the perfect rom-com. I could see josh Duhamel as Adam and Rachel McAdams as Casey...or even Ashton Kutcher with Katherine Heigel....very good storyline and I couldn't put it down....Good Job Abby Gaines!

A friend of mine recently pointed out that he's tired of watching anything other than scifi thriller movies because everything else (read chic flicks or anything essentially with romance) is just "brainwashing." That because of those movies he's expected to be this perfect arrangement of guyness that movie dudes present. Or otherwise that he'll go along doing what he's doing and then suddenly through some strange sequence if events experience an epiphany that he's happier being another way with...more

I really enjoyed this book. It was humorous but serious and realistic at the same time. I loved both of the characters, Adam and Casey. They were meant to be even if their marriage was spur of the moment. I liked the plot line although it could use more conflicts. The problems seemed to be resolved too easily sometimes.

In Married By Mistake, Casey Green goes on a reality TV expecting to surprise marry her fiancé. But when he rejects her proposal, Adam steps in to save the day... and the show th...more

Over all, this was a charming read. I won't go in detail of the story because you can find that elsewhere, but I will give you my impressions of the characters and likability of it all.

I liked that Casey was sweet and giving. Too often in today's literature, the heroine is bad a** and unrealistically emotionless. The hero also was manly yet a little vulnerable which I liked. They both helped each other grow into a more rounded person.

The side love story, between two older characters, brought a s...more

I was excited to read a nice light romance when I saw this book for free on Amazon. Boy, was I disappointed. I greatly disliked this book. The "hero" is a jerk, and there is no indication by the end of the book that he is going to change his ways. In fact, something that he does at the very end of the book suggests that he will continue to be a jerk. Also, if I am to be believe the pop psychology that happens in this book (which I will discuss later), Adam needs to go to therapy to work some stu...more

I struggled with what rating to give this book, but settled on four stars. Twenty-five year old Casey bravely goes on a reality show to propose to, and marry, a guy she doesn't really love. When "Joe" declines her proposal, spoiled, rich, Adam Carmichael steps in to save face, proposes to Casey, marries her, and soon discovers the marriage is legally binding.

It is a little predictable at times, but I still enjoyed it. I almost rated it a three until I realized how much the book actually spoke to...more

A nice little Kindle freebie.

This will sound like a contradiction to my rating, but this was a fun, light read.

HOWEVER, this was a short read and I was short on patience. It started off rather nicely until it got ... annoying.

The premise is simple enough. Heroine wants to marry jerk guy she’s with in a reality TV show, he tells her no, then the hero goes to the rescue so the show doesn’t lose face, thinking it was fake. Due to legalities, the marriage turned out to be real.

Then stupid things go...more

A freebie from Harlequin Superromance. Not my usual fare, but I needed a change. The usual, predictable storyline. Goodlooking girl, not too bright, not a lot of money, meets gorgeous, assertive and most eligible millionaire. They accidentally get married and decide to stay that way, at least for a while, to get their annoying families off their backs. They have the usual misunderstandings, ups and downs and shenanigans to eventually meander towards that expected ending.

A quick and surprisingly...more

The story was a cute read and a typical Harlequin novel, but at times too sweet. Story goes Casey (heroine) goes on a TV reality show for her reluctant fiancé “Joe” so that he would ask her to marry him, unfortunately Joe refuses Casey on the air (like ouch) in front of thousands of people. Adam (hero) owns the studio decides to help her save face as well as potentially avoid any impending lawsuits over this debacle, since the show is about marriage Adam marries Casey (Adam believes the marriage...more

Married by Mistake

IF IT’S WRONG, I DON’T WANNA BE RIGHT!!

Ok… so this is one of those freebies recommended by Free Romance ibooks on Facebook… and let me tell you… I was completely taken with this story… it tore on my heartstrings right from the very beginning… I mean seriously folks… how can you not be freaked out when a man basically leaves you at the alter! I was glad to see Adam step in even though he wasn’t sure what he was doing either…

This book was around 160 to 170 pages long (kindle vers...more

This was a very cute read, but at times a bit too sweet for my taste. The story opens when the heroine, Casey, decides to go on a TV reality show to get her reluctant fiancé, Joe, to finally marry her. Seems like Casey is a bit desperate to marry Joe and he seems to be dragging his feet on his way to the HEA. Unfortunately, Joe refuses Casey on the air and she get's jilted in front of thousands of people.

Adam who owns the studio decides to step in to help her save face as well as potentially avo...more

When a romance starts out with an utterly ridonkulous plot device, I know that I’m going to hate it or really enjoy it. It was the latter.

The book starts off as our heroine Casey is about to appear on a reality TV show in which three women show up in bridal dresses to be wed, without knowledge of their fiances/boyfriends who are lured to the set on false pretenses. Casey’s been engaged to Joe for several years, but they’ve never set the date. She wants to get away from her co-dependent family a...more

A very sweet and romantic story. MARRIED BY MISTAKE tells the story of two people who are just that, married by mistake. But once Casey and Adam realize that this marriage could be convenient for one month, they decide to move in together and play the charade of husband and wife. Obviously, romantic tensions spark and they begin to fall for each other.

The story is very simple and the characters are warm and varied. Casey really wasn't my favorite character. Her dependency and her pushover attit...more

This is what I absolutely adore about books from this line--you expect cute, sexy, funny and well written and that is EXACTLY what you get. Well almost always!

I have to tell you that lately nothing I pick up to read has been holding my interest, let alone amusing me. So I held out little hope for this book. I have this stubborn streak that says 'if it is cheap or free it can't be good'. Don't ask me why I feel that way -I guess I'm just brainwashed. And this book proves me wrong on all counts.

This was a great book. Why? Not only was it free, it was so off-the-wall. The set up of getting married on a reality show worked for me. The intricacies of Tennessee marriage law was great fun to look into, and shows just how flavorful the different states are. Back when I did taxes seasonally, I married a couple. According to Kansas state law, if you file a joint tax return, then you're common-law married. So, reading that someone who fills out a license and then can be married by any past coun...more

I stopped reading about a third of the way through. I didn't resonate with any of the characters, and found the heroine, Casey, completely unrealistic. She was such a pushover that she was almost an invertebrate. You would have to imagine that she WOULD find a backbone by the end of the novel, but to think that she had lived two or three decades without one, and then amazingly find one in a month was a bit of a stretch. To some extent, she was insightful enough to realize that she was a pushover...more

This is definitely one of those marriage stories that if it had been real would have been an impossible story to top.

Casey Greene gets rejected by her long time fiance on local TV, but this should have been no surprise because she admits to herself and that kind stranger before the show that she knew the relationship had gone flat. Casey has little time to feel humiliated because the handsome and kind stranger, Adam Carmichael, owner of the station swoops in and pretends to marry her to keep th...more

Freebie from Harlequin, and a cute book. The reality show angle doesn't really work well for me, though, because it decreases the believability of the situation and because I have a very strong feeling that only the worst types of people sign up for that sort of thing. It's a clever way to get two almost complete strangers to be married by mistake, though; the hero, to save the heroine from public humiliation, agrees to "marry" her when her boyfriend turns down her live televised marriage propos...more

Another fun "super" romance from Harlequin that was published right at the beginning of the "reality TV" era. Here a bride show brings prospective marriage partners--people who have been dating seriously or are already engaged--and with the public proposal, issue a marriage license and the wedding is performed. Casey had been going with Joe for seven years but she was no closer to a wedding than she was seven years earlier, so she manipulated Joe's presence on the show only to have him refuse to...more

In spite of (or maybe because of) having one of the more ridiculous premises I’ve encountered in awhile, I devoured this book.

Casey Green is engaged to a lame duck guy who is way too comfortable sitting on the proverbial pot. Hoping to be more proactive about her situation, Casey volunteers to appear on a reality television show called Kiss the Bride where unsuspecting bridegrooms are tricked into invited to marry their patiently waiting lady friend on the spot, on air, in front of a live TV au...more

MARRIED BY MISTAKE was a great read.

The characters were so opposite, but so similar that they connected in a way that I felt deeply while reading.

Adam Carmichael is at odds with his aunt and cousin over his father’s will since it cut his cousin Henry out of the family broadcasting company and requires Adam to be married by his thirtieth birthday.

On the day of Henry’s new show airing live where brides surprise their guy with marriage, he talks down the beautiful Casey Greene who is having seco...more

I tend to be a hopeless romantic, so I very much liked this book. It's a light, easy read romance novel and its free (c'mon who doesn't like free). But like I said, I'm a hopeless romantic. Give me a good story with a HEA and I'm pretty easy to please. (I blame it on being a Pisces).

The characters were very like-able (I can totally relate to Casey being a pushover). Speaking of Casey, she's this people pleaser who doesn't know how to say no. And Adam. Poor Adam has more issues than sports illust...more

I read this as a Harlequin freebie - thank you Harlequin. This was an entertaining read. There was a choice of several different romantic books and I chose this one for two reasons. Firstly, it has a very cute cover (Ah!) and secondly, Abby is president of Romance Writers of New Zealand and an inspiration to us all. I wanted to see what she wrote. Initially, I found the opening of the book a little confusing - there is a fiance already, and the heroine's reasons for ditching him are complicated....more

Perfect for : Personal reading, take it on the plane, sneak it into your purse for those extra minutes you've got throughout the day, or cozy up in the corner of the couch with your favorite blanket and indulge yourself!

In a nutshell: From start to finish I LOVED this book, and I didn't want it to end. The book starts with the filming of a brand new reality show called Kiss the Bride, where brides are all dressed up and ready for their prospective husbands to propose, be officially married and h...more

Married By Mistake is as formulaic as 7+7=TRIANGLE. There wasn’t anything compelling or driving about the story. Once you get past premise of the jilted bride is saved by the “roguish knight in rusted armor” it falls predictable and hollow. The contrived problems of our protagonist couple are nowhere as interesting as the subplot relationship of the older couple Eloise and Sam. Even the conflict with Adam’s family is more interesting.

Is this the formula for written romance? I’ve read this same...more

I write funny, tender romance novels for Harlequin Superromance and Love Inspired Historical.

My next book to be released is That New York Minute, out in April 2012.

I like to set aside some of my writing time for experimental projects - I'm currently trying my hand at a humorous women's fiction novel, and I also finished a Young Adult manuscript.
