A ghost with a vengeance, an old asylum, and a family with a dirty little secret. I'll have to admit this book gave me the creeps and I was a little terrified when I turned out the lights for the night!

3.5 stars. The first part started off well. I connected with the main character as he's funny, sarcastic, moody, his wife and kids irritate the hell out of him but he loves them. Reminded me of myself. The story jumps around a bit which confused me initially but sorts itself out at the end. This seems to be a pattern with this author with every book I've read so far. He jumps from the present, to the past, to memories etc... but his books are easy reads and not bogged down with over the top ...more

Good enough

I enjoyed this book and so far everything I've read by Matt Shaw. I do only wish he would have done a little more research on the location since Brattleboro is only the 2nd exit off 91 as you enter Vermont and his Americanized English could have been smoother, just saying it would have flowed better otherwise a good read but not very scary since a lot of movies and stories are set in remote locations in a cabin or an asylum. I do highly recommend any book though written by Matt Shaw.

Just fantastic... there are that many twists and turns you don't know if your coming or going ... I read them back to back in the same day because it was so hard to put down...I highly recommend it to anybody who likes psychological horror...

MATT SHAW was born, quite by accident (his mother tripped, he shot out) September 30th 1980 in Winchester hospital where he was immediately placed on the baby ward and EBay. Some twelve years later (wandering the corridors of the hospital and playing with road kill when he was on day release), the listing closed and he remained unsold, he was booted out of the hospital to start his life a
