Part cookbook, part family history, very interesting look at life in a Victorian home. It's hard to realize how much work cooking was a century and a half ago. I see where some traditions in Southern cooking come from... these recipes have no end of butter, eggs and bacon. Certainly no one knew about cholesterol in those days.

Fun book. I am not a big cook, but found the recipes interesting, but more importantly I enjoyed the behind the scenes stories of the women who prepared them.
