I read this book a long time ago, and recently picked it up again at the library because I remembered it was a great science fiction read and I was looking for something in that genre to satisfy the craving I’ve been having for that sort of book. Dr. Franklin’s Island was just as great as the first time around, reeling me in and dragging me along for the ride.
Of course, the book also freaked me out, in major ways. It took basically everything I fear (being trapped with no escape, hav More...

This book was pretty good. It was definitely a great idea, but the writing kind of ruined it for me. I really liked the idea, and concept that children were captured and genetically modified to become transgenics, and I thought that the concept of getting lost on an island was good for the idea. Now, I found the original concept to be close to the short story The Most Dangerous Game . Otherwise, the actual idea of humans with DNA is similar to the Maximum Ride series by James Patterson.

This was the first of two books I carried along for a lengthy flight to China. I expected (and wanted) something light and easy. Turns out it was that (the target audience is YA), but it was also carefully and thoughtfully put together, which I certainly appreciated.

Semi, Miranda, and Arnie are three teenagers who won a chance to go on an expedition to the Galapagos islands as part of a popular TV show. Unfortunately their plain is hijacked, and crashed on an island that's not so deserted as it appears. Now Arnie is missing, and Semi and Miranda are unwilling guests of Dr. Franklin, who has a plan for them both. They will be test subjects for his first experiment to create transgenic humans.

Dr. Franklins Island is a very suspensfull book, and it is a very good page turner.
When their is a plane crash in the middle of the ocean their are only 3 people who survive the crash. Dr Franklin is very scary and very manipulitive of their minds. I like how they turn into the animals that they have always wished they could be. But then Dr. Franklin keeps them in cages and studies them and experiments on them. When they see all of the teenagers that he has experimented on and turned More...

Plane crash, check. Stranded on an island, check. This book has all the makings of what I would read. And it gets better - there's some degree of suspense and a good stream of science-fiction (genetics and stuff), all mixed with a healthy portion of emotion. How do you deal with being the first human guinea pig for an experiment? And not just psychologically - how do you cope when you start... changing? What will you do when your friend, a fellow crash survivor, begins to lose her human consciou

Read this a while ago! It was a good one. Things kept getting worse and more desperate until they just had to better. This kept me on the edge, I just couldn't picture how it would all end until it did. There was also the debate of understanding the true conflict of the book, after all the main charaters had ways for blocking out their human thoughts, surrendering to nature and not remembering their situations. I loved it so much maybe because I had the favor of reading with my book club, with e

This story is a teenage version of The Island of Dr. Moreau. A group of teenage students on their way to a science expedition in Ecuador become stranded on a private island owned by a mad scientist who wants to experiment turning humans into animals. This was an interesting story, but is definitely not for the squeamish. The descriptions of the dead bodies from the plane crash and the scientific experiments are very detailed and a bit horrific. While I wanted to know what happened, I felt like p

Dr. Franklins Island was a very strange book. I didn’t really like or care for this book at all. I wouldn’t really recommend this book to anyone unless they are love science fiction books. At the beginning of the story a group of teenagers plane crashed in an ocean surrounding a small tropical island on their way to a wildlife conservation center in the rainforests of Ecuador. Only three teens survive the crash. The three are left to fend for themselves on the island and they make an astonishin

Semirah Garson never expected to be plane-wrecked. She never expected to meet two people in an airport and have them turn out to be her only companions for the rest of her life. But the world is unpredictable like that. Semi, Miranda and Arnie are the sole survivors of a plane crash that landed them on an small tropical island in the middle of the Pacific. But being stranded is only the start of their nightmare. Dr Franklin's been waiting for them. And now they're here, his experiments can begin

My class had spent the entire hour in the library looking novels to do book reports on. I still hadn't found one. The bell would ring in approximately three seconds, so I grabbed the nearest book that looked good. I know it sounds cheesy, but by the time I got home on the bus that day, my eyes were glued to the page. Granted, I was a bit repelled by the talk of dead bodies and genetic mutation. I wouldn't recommend this book for the weak stomached. But for those who enjoy some mild action

A scifi thriller inspired by The Island of Dr. Moreau by Wells. This is a story of three conservationists from England who find themselves stranded on an island after their plane goes down. Here they encounter Dr. Franklin who has plans to use them as specimens for his experiments in genetic engineering. As they watch themselves partly transformed into animals they struggle to escape before it is too late to reverse the process. A great story with shades of not-so-far-in-the-distant-future c

This book is about three kids Miranda, Semi, and Anrie who were on a trip to South America. Then their plane crashes, they are the only people who survive. Miranda, the oldest, feels the need to take charge, and knows how to survive. Anrie, the only guy on the island is the most self-fish; he takes things that only benefit him. Semi, the youngest, and she is the quietest.

Oh dear, quite possibly one of the most boring books I have ever read. Okay, I mean, it started out fairly good. And I was confident it would be good because my friend wouldn't let it rest till I read it. But the second they became animals, I seriously was falling asleep. It was SO boring. Nothing was happening. At all. Had to go through pages and pages of a freaking mantra swimming around doing... nothing. The start was okay, and the end was okay. But everything in between was garbage.

Dr. Franklins island
By: Ann Halam
It was a very easy and the words were nice and big. This book was confusing at times but it was good all around. This doctor takes survivers from a plane crash and thir his victims. The part were Miranda watches Sami get transformed into a creature waspretty freaky. Doctor Franklin's goal is to take humanilty beyond the limits. I would recomend this book to people who like horror and books that push the the limit to be human.

Its odd to feel apathetic about a book, yet here I am. This book was basically "The Island of Dr Moreau" all over again, but there were some interesting tidbits. Yet looking back, nothing ever really caught my attention either positive or negative. I finished it because it wasn't bad enough NOT to, yet I didn't really enjoy it either. Basically okay if you really have NOTHING else to do with your time

Semi, Miranda, and Arnie survive a plane crash on their way to the rain forests of Ecuador. They find themselves on an island they believe to be deserted. Then they stumble into the hands of Dr. Franklin, a scientist, who is eager to use three teenagers who are presumed dead by the world in his experiments in genetic engineering. A modern version of the Wells' classic The Island of Dr. Moreau.

Halam jam-packs sci-fi, thriller, horror and adventure all into 245 pages of greatness. She has well developed characters and an all around teriffic story. I love, love, loved Dr. Franklin's Island. Its a chilling and thought provoking novel about "transgenics" and its affects on the human body, and mind. I would reccomend it to sci-fi lovers, or any reader who loves a great, but disturbing, adventure.

This was a mix of adventure and science. Three kids are stuck on an island with an evil mad scientist who plans to use them for his experiments. It was a very thrilling book to read and it kind of scared me that this was actually science. The creatures were described in the book and if I saw them for real, I wouldn't believe that I was actually seing them.

Dr. Franklin's Island is such a good book that you'd be suprised as to how spontaneous an unexpected the events occur.
I suggest you read this book because it will give you a perspective of how crazy things could get out of control if you're unawre of your surroundings.

I first read this with no idea what it was about, I didn't even read the summery, and this, I think, is the best way to approach this book. All I will say in way of plot is think Most Dangerous Game meets Animorphs. Dr. Franklin's Island is an island survival story with a twist.

When Semi sees a pig with human hands, she thinks she is really losing it. Semi is known to be the weak one of the group, because she always is a step behind Miranda. But on Dr. Franklins Island, people see the real side of her, and Miranda.
Semi, Miranda, and Archie were the lone survivors of a plane (going to Ecuador) crash. They swam to an island near where the plane crashed in the water thinking it was a safe island. They were wrong. When they crawl through a cave, they find civi More...

I LOVE this book. I can't think of one single thing I don't like this book. It is so interesting and sometimes keeps you on the edge of your seat. It makes you want to yell out to the characters, telling them things to do. I loved how creeped out I was a lot of the time. This is such a well written book, and I love everything about it.

Miranda, Semi, and Arnie are in a plane crash on their way to a Planet Savers expedition to Ecuador and the Galapagos. They are captured and become part of a transgenic experiment – one a snake, one a bird, and one a manta ray.

Love the realist perspective from the main character. The plot is believable and has a 'Lord of the Flies' feel to it before they discover what's beyond the cave.
An enjoyable quick read that will leave you wanting more.

A kiddie version of Frankenstein/Island of Dr. Moreau - but still interesting and worth reading as an example of utoptian/dystopian fiction. More of an adventure story than, say, Unwind. Just roared through it...for the younger crowd, grade 7- perhaps 10 as a companion novel.

Dr Franklin's Island was, without a doubt, was the best book I've ever had the luck to read! It was honest, almost to a fault, in describing human nature. The only word that can sum up this book completely is....AWESOME.

This was a good book. Quite intense- kids get stranded on an island after a plane crash. On this island is a mad scientist who captures them, and experiments on them...I wouldn't recommend this for younger kids.
