My first DC book and also the first book in the series. It wasn't anything special, but, being a Dragonfire newbie, I didn't expect much. Especially not from the first book in a series where it's all mostly about history-, mythos-, and world-building.

Kiss of Fire was no exception, giving a nice, albeit rushed, introduction into the world of the Pyr, their war against the Slayers, the firestorm-business etc.

Granted, there were no vampires, werewolves, witches or warlocks present, but I couldn't s...more

Kiss of Fire is a great example of what not to do in a Prologue and when a Prologue may not even be needed. The first problem was that there were too many characters introduced and done so poorly. Numerous times a new name was added but never go beyond that and we don't hear or see from that person again. Especially for the setup of the book, this is damaging for the story. It doesn't let the reader focus on one character. It's the extreme opposite of an info dump, an info vortex where instead o...more

Such a readable story! I meant to only read a few chapters before bedtime and found myself at 2 o'clock on the morning with a finished book. I thought the world building was well-done, the fighting scenes nicely-written and I enjoyed the fast-paced action of the book. The characters were likeable and I'm looking forward to the next in the series. It's definitely an interesting start to the series, but I'm hoping for more interaction between the main characters in the next book. This one seemed a...more

Quinn has been alone for years both in friendship and in love. Sara has also had a life of solitude because she wanted to make money, after the death of her parents and Aunt, Sara decides to settle down and manage her Aunts new age bookstore. One night Sara is attacked and Quinn arrives just in time to save her life. Very soon Quinn and Sara’s life begins to change, they have to learn to work together or else.

This book is just ok. There is not much in character development and the plot is really...more

1.5 didn't finish this one. I liked the YA book by this author, Flying Blind, and when I heard this series was connected to it, and more adult I though I'd give it a chance. I liked the writing style in the YA one, I liked the characters, I was engaged and kept interested in the plot. Unfortunately all those thinks were lacking in this one. The writing style seems simpler, or maybe just the povs sound less interesting than the YA one and make it more apparent. The romance- I guess I see shades o...more

I was a little unsure about reading this book initially as I wasn't sure how the idea of dragon shapeshifters would play out, but it turned out to be a really good read.

Sara is an accountant turned magic book store owner, after inheriting the business from her aunt and after her parents died in a car crash whilst on holiday. Quinn is a Pyr, a dragon shape shifter, who has no alliances with any other Pyr and has no desire for any either. He is the Smith, the Pyr who can make fire do his bidding....more

With KISS OF FIRE Deborah Cooke started a trilogy full of Dragons, Prophecies and a group of Pyr that fight the Slayers of their kind. It is not something that I haven't read before and I would almost say: `Been there, done that.' Almost, because with an outstanding research this author has given voice to a group of Dragons that breathe their own fire in this novel. Not only are they an intriguing lot to say the least, but their history is something that gave an in depth view of their world and...more

I find that my love for fantasy changes over time. Two years ago I had a “vampire phase” where I was absolutely gaga about anything and everything vampire! The most memorable aspect of that time was that I was crazy about the Black Dagger Brotherhood series by JR Ward and Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark Hunter series. Then that was followed by the “wolf phase” where most of the books I bought were about shape-shifting wolves. Sometimes I don’t even read the caption about the book, if it got a shape-shif...more

After reading a slew of awful books it was so nice to read a good one. Perhaps that made this books seem better than it actually was, but I accept that! I really loved the clear direction this book presented. It seems that in a lot of PR books there is a battle between good and evil that has been going and will continue to go on forever with no real end in sight. While Cooke's book does have the requisite battle between good and evil, I don't feel it is done without direction or that it is one t...more

A world of shape-shifting dragon warriors. A self-reliant loner blacksmith. A bookstore-owner ace accountant. A fated meeting that can change the course of destiny.

I picked Kiss of Fire from the library because I was intrigued with the idea of shape-shifting dragons, and I’m always on the look-out for a new paranormal series to read. Furthermore, with the second book besides it, Kiss of Fury, it guarantees me the chance to read the next one if I like the first.

Kiss of Fire is about Sara Keegan,...more

I love to read. I'll read just about anything, even stuff I know is trash, and at least be able to get some enjoyment out of it. I hate to leave a book series unfinished, and even if I'm really not all that interested in it any more, I'll plow through to the end. When I read The Call of the Wild, I was bored to tears, and didn't start to like it until around half way through (the second half was great though :). So when I tell you that I only managed to get half way through chapter four in Kiss...more

I had a lot of ups and downs with this book. I was in the middle of various mood swings and my opinion of it changed so drastically and so randomly that I don't really know if I liked it enough to recommend it or not.

The good things, and the ones that have really made an impression on me, are the storyline and the characters. It was all perfectly set, and the correlation between the two was in harmony that I haven't noticed recently in book. Not to mention that the world of the Pyr and the fires...more

Kiss of Fire by Deborah Cooke is a highly entertaining read that takes you into the world of the Pyr, (men that shapeshift into dragons) and the women who love them. Kiss of Fire tells the story of Quinn and Sara. Sara a hotshot accountant from the big city who decides to get away from her current work to take over he aunts New Age Book store and Quinn a handsome man who has a way with metal and makes his living as a blacksmith and who is also a shapeshifting Dragon. So when Quinn recieves his f...more

I came across this book and found it intriguing because I've never read about dragons before. It was a good story but I wasn't that excited about the characters. Sara was a good character although for someone who was around mythical and spiritual beliefs from her aunt and mother, it didn't make sense that her character was so disbelieving of things that were happening. Quinn's character bugged me the most. He was so hot and cold. For someone who met their destine...more

A book about Pyr, meaning shape shifter Dragon, was a new change for me, I loved to see one in Dragon bound by Thea Harrison and I wanted more so I discovered Deborah Cooke series DragonFire and I’m really happy with it. In this universe, Pyr have an affinity, a power over one element and each one has a speciality but life isn’t easy for them. They were created to protect the earth however a schism appeared centuries ago and now two camps exist. One camp, the “true” Pyrs stay true to their missi...more

Did I love it? YES, I did! Incredible world, witty characters, humor, danger, intriguing plot, action, and...SEXY DRAGONS!!

The book was so fantastic that I couldn't help but share a couple snippets of this one! And yes, this is exactly why I couldn't put this book down!

Searching for a calmer life after the death of her parents and favorite aunt, Sara Keegan moves to a small community to run a New Age bookstore. She doesn't share the belief of her customers and is more concerned with balancing the books than anything else. But when she is mugged one night after leaving work, a gorgeous man saves her, and she swears she saw him turn into a dragon.

Quinn Tyrrell is a Pyr who has lived on his own for centuries, but he is called by the firestorm, he rushes to find...more

**** "Kiss of Fire" by Deborah Cooke, is the first in her Dragon shape-shifter romances. Sparks and heat from firestorm ordain the mating of Smith and Seer, Quinn and Sara, loners orphaned by fire from Slayers. Life is short, eat dessert first - I agree to my talon tips. Not sure why the beginning drifts in with vague prophecy, when dramatic deathly duels storm throughout. Falling in lust is logical when virile glorious protector saves her life instantly and repeatedly. I like this quick, smart...more

Wow don't I feel stupid. I didn't realise that Deborah Cooke was also Claire Cross, the author of a fantastic series I read a few years ago about the Coxwell family! Back to the book at hand...

This was a different kind of book than I am used to. I have never read a "dragon" book before, but thouroughly enjoyed this one. I liked this introduction to the Pyr world and look forward to reading more about dragons.

The characters were fantastic and engaging and made me want to know more a...more

I had read this a couple of years ago, and somehow lost track of the series along the way, so I started over, and was thrilled that my library had the series available for the Kindle. The stories focus on the Pyr, a race of dragon shifters who protect the earth and it's inhabitants, including humans. They are in conflict with the Slayers, evil dragon shifters, who hate humans. Good against evil. Hunky heroes against evil dudes with black blood...the first good guy Quinn is rather grumpy and anti...more

Oooooh....dragons.

Quinn was such a unique character for me. The fact that he's a blacksmith in modern day was so...cool. That he's a dragon shifter? Even cooler.

I loved the chemistry between him and Sarah.

The series is unique even though dragons seem to be the in thing a few years ago. I have questions about the dragon's history but I'm looking forward to finding out the answers. Although some of it feels predictable: they feel the firestorm and know they're going to find their mate and then wh...more

I didn't have much expectation for this book. I actually didn't know what it was when I picked it up at the library. Judging from the synopsis on the back cover, it seemed interesting since it's about dragons - something that's new for, aside from vampires, wolves, witches and demons etc. This book was somewhat tolerable, but the plot was totally predictable because a lot of the information was given away in the prologue. Also, the way that the author has introduced the characters reminds me muc...more

Lee Anne - Give me a Good Romance
This book was surprisingly good. I don't usually like dragon shape shifting stories, but this one really got my attention and kept it. I'm now reading the second one in the series.

The only thing I didn't like about this book was the description of the dragons (pyr) in their dragon form. The color descriptions were excellent but I had a hard time getting a feel for the size of the dragons. At times it seemed almost comical what I was imagining.

Everything else about the book was very good. The ch...more

I have always loved books about dragons and this one really delivers!! Quinn is a Pyr - a good dragon who is also the Smith. The Smith is a dragon who works with metals and can do just about anything with them like a blacksmith. Quinn saves Sara from an attack in which she sees Quinn as a dragon but passes out....when she awakes Quinn is in his human form and she thinks she was imagining things! One thing is for sure...Quinn knows Sara is his destined Mate.
The book grabbed me in almost from the...more
The Window Seat

Hmmm, a Beta hero in a Paranormal... Color me intrigued! The Dragonfire books have sat at the top of my TBR pile for months, and now I wonder what took me so long to read them!

Quinn Tyrell is a dragon shifter - one of a dying breed known as the Pyr. Quinn has a talent above and beyond the other Pyr that makes him special. Dragonfire makes him stronger, not weaker and he can forge metals because of it. He is known in legend and prophecy as the Smith. He has distanced himself from the other Pyr fo...more

The first in a were-dragon series by Deborah Cooke. As much as I wanted to like this book, G.A. Aiken's clumsy attempt at were-dragon romance was about 10 times better than this sadly executed tale. I found myself fighting to get through it. I finally finished but it was very difficult.

I'm not sure what made this book so hard for me. Maybe it was that Cooke never really describes the general physiology of her dragons, so the reader ends up guessing about a lot of stuff when the characters are do...more
