But when Marissa starts exhibiting signs of mental instability, Charlotte's worries increase that Curtis may discover that the psychotic Aaron is actually Marissa's biological father. The book that I am reading is called, "Love and Lies" by Kimberla Lawson Roby. The genre is romance and it was published in 2007. It only has 288 pages, but it took me three weeks to read it because I was reading only a little a day. It won African American Literacy Award and won her Female Author of the Year in 2007. The main characters are: Rev. Curtis Black, his wife Charlotte, their daughter Marissa, their son Matthew, Charlot...more

Love and Lies is one in a series of Kimberla Lawson Roby. It was a good read, but I'm slowly starting the see a theme over the last couple of books now where it gets really good and intense in the last few chapters of the book. I'd really like the read to be engaged the whole way through, and not just in the last 3 to 5 chapters left of the book.
On a side note, it really makes you wonder how Roby knows SO much about the internal working of the black church, and if she's really speaking of a chu...more

I thought that I was finished reading about Curtis Black years ago. When I found that there have been 4 or 5 books added since my last adventure, I knew it was time to indulge in the antics of Rev. Curtis Black.
I must say that Ms. Roby did not disappoint at all. Very solid read, and she completed it well. I like how she ends it in a way that you don't feel forced to read the next book. She gives you opportunity to choose.

This is the fourth installment of the "Casting The First Stone" series centered around the devious Rev. Curtis Black, and still this was another good read from Roby. She knows how to keep the story flowing and writes plots to keep your attention.
I found it interesting that she did not focus in on Curtis. With Curtis Black as a secondary character it made the series more enjoyable and it gives more of the other characters attention that could potentially broaden the direction for future novels r...more

A thrilling Read!
I thought "Love and Lies' was very interesting and well written. Kim Roby did a super effort in closing this series. There were a couple of plots that didn't seem to go anywhere, but I did like the way the new characters was brought in. I also liked the fact that the author didn't focus so much on Curtis. All and all, it was a thrilling read and I enjoyed the book very much.

Ok, this is were the series becomes a series of repeats and where I do a lot of skipping just to get to the bottomline. Love/Lies disappoints because the bottomline was cotton candy meaning sweet but a cheap shot at being literay satisfying.
While the ending was predictable...I would have loved a detailing of for J fighting back. Why didn't she buy and learned to fire a gun? Love/Lies spent way too much time telling the ills/dramas/victimsisms/hatefullness of its secondary characters...and it was...more

This book was absolutely horrible! Not only were the characters annoying, but the way the author wrote the book was annoying! She went into detail about the dumbest stuff. On page 268 I don't know what happened, but for some reason, the sentences weren't completed. I'm so glad I am done reading this book. It was torture.
