I am a sucker or a good zombie novel and unfortunately they are not easy to find. Transport however is one I enjoyed very much. I loved the entire concept of this story and loved the execution even more.

In Transport there is a spit between the people who think the zombies shoud be eradicated and the people who think they should be kept "alive" just in case there will ever be a "cure" for there situation. Captain Billet and his crew take care to protect both the living and the undead. They are o

(I traded books with Peter Welmerink with the expectation to receive, and give, an honest review.)

I haven’t read too many zombie books, but I do like reading darker genres and I love zombie movies. Zombie tropes generally follow the same path, “Oh, look how that guy shambles...ouch! He bit me! GHASP! Now I’m becoming a zombie!!” That pathway is a bit overused.

Peter Welmerink bypassed this stale machination and dropped me right into post-apocalypse Michigan. Captain Jake Billet, commander of the

Combine zombie fiction with Mad Max and space marines perhaps, and you’ll have something like Peter Welmerink’s Transport. Perfectly earth-bound, set in a very convincingly post-viral Grand Rapids Michigan, filled with believable characters who hold their tasks in the front of their minds and their pasts between the lines, and told with rapid-fire, absorbing narration, Transport transports its readers and won’t let go, from beginning to end. It’s a novel that begs to be turned into a movie, but ...more

To quote the Regent of Muskegon: "“It has been a pleasure seeing what an absolute ****hole West Michigan has become." Now while I think Lettner might have been using a bit of sarcasm when he said those words; I most certainly am not. As a resident of West Michigan and a fan of zombie fiction I had a great time reading this. It was really fun reading about familiar places throughout the book. You most definitely don't need to be a local to enjoy this though.

I picked up Peter Welmerink's first book in his zombie series about an HTV, heavy transport vehicle, at the Imaginarium convention in Louisville, Kentucky last year. After hearing him talk about his writing, I was curious to see how it turned out in the book. Transport is the start of what could grow into a very interesting series about a small group of military facing off against a zombie. The concept of a heavy vehicle rolling over zombies is an awesome idea and there is plenty of gore and ...more

Transport is a refreshing read from the very first page - the writing itself far superior to many that I've read recently. It's not perfect - some of the sentences run on a bit too long, and a few phrases are noticeably repeated (e.g scar-striped face) but as a whole, you can see that it's been written by a real author rather than so many of the self-published books you can find on the kindle.
The story itself is somewhat different to the other zombie books I've read so far, and that's refreshi

I think by now we all understand that the true horror behind any apocalyptic scenario would not be whatever caused the apocalypse. In a short matter of time the bigger threat would quickly become the human race stripped from the bonds of society’s expectations. Zombies are a prime example of this idea. According to any zombie movie or book, the dead will one day rise and cause the fall of civilization and put the human race on the endangered species list (if there was anyone around who still ...more

Exuberant, energetic storytelling from an author who clearly enjoys the world he's created, and that resonates with readers. As a resident of West Michigan, it's even more fun to recognize the local landmarks that have been transformed by the future zombie apocalypse. Feral hordes of the undead, armored vehicles, crack military units, with plenty of action, adventure, and humor. What's not to like!

the book was very specific, almost too specific that in the beginning I felt like I got lost in location details and military terms (and I live on the West side of GR!). the plot definitely picked up and I think the undead retention area and the vaccine abuse were nice additions to the usual zombie lore. if anything, I wanted this book to be longer to afford more time to develop characters, more of the back story, and build tensions. definitely a cool read though.

I was curious about this one, Zombies are all the rage but I was pleasantly pleased with this book. It was not at all your typical zombie story. It was fast paced, intense, awesome characters and a great plot. I really enjoyed this book, I think it would appeal to anyone who loves Zombie tales as well as horror fans. I think it will also appeal to people who like apocalyptic tales. I am very impressed with the caliber of the writing in this one. Well Done!
