My first impression upon receiving this tome was, predictably, "Why!?" Why do you need 600 pages to describe a document interchange format? Why would you waste 600 pages of good paper to print out a specification? Why does it have 2 bound bookmarks?

Upon actually reading the book, however, I realized the irony that this book contains a detailed description of its own future obsolescence. It was printed on paper because the web didn't exist at the time, and the web wouldn't have existed without a
