At first this story seems almost "cozy" in a country sort of way. The kind of story you want to settle into and spend time there. But it sneaks up on you, like a warm family gathering with an unseen snake in the room. The more you read, the stranger this little general store and mountain community seem. And nothing is more strange and disturbing than the fanged stranger who drops by for a visit.
