I have just finished an romantic yet interesting book called "Accidental Love" by Gary Soto, author of "THE AFTERLIFE",(Genre: Fiction /Publication date: January 1, 2008) and despite the title and cover let me assure you that this is not one of your typical long winded "oh lovey dovey girl boy meets girl" books. I would defiantly say this book puts an unusual twist onto your everyday boyfriend girlfriend couple. The author’s style was more of a first/second person s More...

Title: Accidental Love
Author: Gary Soto

I just started this book a few days ago, and so far it is pretty good. I think Marisa is one real twisted up chica. She speaks a lot of spanglish as do her parents. She's got a lot of meat on her bones which makes her think that she has to act all tough and bad. However I think that she's just putting up a brave front to keep her insecurities hidden below all those layers of rudeness, viole More...

When Marisa Rodriguez accidentally switches cell phones with a stranger during a tussle with her best friends’ ex-boyfriend, the stage is set for an odd romance. When she meets Rene Torres to reclaim her phone, she inexplicably falls for his nerdy charm. Marisa decides to transfer from her dump of a high school to Rene’s more prestigious charter school in a better neighborhood. Though, she gets a lot of flack from her old friends at Washington High, who think she has suddenly decided she’s be More...

Marisa Rodriguez, a fourteen-year-old chubby tough girl, meets Rene, a smart, skinny geek from another school. They begin dating and learn the ups and downs of being in a relationship. Despite their differences in looks, intellect, and personality, they fill in each other a need—the need to feel wanted by somebody. I can see how it would appeal to a middle school audience. It is during this time that children and teenagers are trying desperately to try to fit. Their bodies are changing, and More...

Accidental Love by Gary Soto gives away the main idea in its title. A girl named Marisa is a very rough girl -- more like a bully. In the beginning, she was at the hospital because of her friend, Alicia got into a car accident. Later on, she bumped into a total nerd name Rene. They got acquainted but Marisa kept thinking she couldn't say things right. However, most of the time that only happens to people that are nervous because they have a crush on that person. Could that be the reason Marisa w More...

I'm not gonna lie, this book was pretty enjoyable. Classic love story, boy and girl meet and fall in love despite their differences which eventually cause some sort of trial in the relationship but everything ends up okay even though one person's mom disagrees. Though it's nothing new, I still enjoyed reading about the changes Marisa made and Rene too. I guess I'm a sap, but I love being married to someone who is my total opposite. She makes me be more outgoing and I calm her down, sometimes. Th More...

This book makes me think about the phrase "Don't judge a book by it's cover". I haven't finished reading it but by the way my main character acts that massage tends to pop up into my head a lot through out the book. There was one part of the book where I really got a sense of how my character is: "She called her own cell number, wiggling her toes as she waited for the guy to pick up. But her own rushed Voice came on rudely: "YOU leave a message and you speak clearly, you know More...

I think this was a sweet book =]. It's about a girl named Marisa who is a hot head and loves getting into fights. When she accidentally switches phones with a nerd name Rene, the chemistry is there. They start seeing a bit more of eachother and eventually, a romantic relationship is formed between them. They're a weird couple but they don't care, as long as they have eachother. But then, they find out that love isn't that simple. I liked this book most of the time, but what I didn't like was the More...

Accidental love

In this book Marisa Rodriguez, a high school student has to tolerate the neighborhood she is in. It is enough that she has to attend a bad school. It isn't until a weird encounter with a kid named Rene, changes the way Marisa views things. Before Marisa didn't have much of a purpose of progressing in life. Her environment is a factor in her life that impedes her to do much which is why she doesn More...

This book was one of the best books i have ever read. The fact that the book is like a life story or a story i know a lot of people including myself can relate to makes it even better. At the beginning it starts of by telling you about a girl and a boy in the car that get into an accident because of the girl saw a picture of her boyfriend and another girl. I bought this book for my classroom library and read it myself before giving it to the kids. It's a great book about identity and Soto tackles the issue cleverly through a street smart and likable (but rough!) young Latina named Marisa. Marisa, a badass from the "wrong" side of town, meets Rene, a nerd from the "right" side of town, and they fall for each other only to realize that things are not that simple...

Marisa is a tough girl from a tough school, and isn't afraid to defend herself or her friends, even if that means getting into fistfights with boys. During one such fight, with her best friend's cheating boyfriend, Marisa ends up accidentally switching cell phones with a boy who witnessed the fight. The boy, Rene, is unlike Marisa in almost every way. He is small and weak, he ignores insults rather than fighting over them, and he's unusually smart. Despite these differences, when Rene and Ma More...

Accidental Love by Gary Soto was a pretty good book. It talked about a girl who fell in love with a nerd. She's the wild type, the one who doesn't care about school. Meanwhile, her love is the one who lets her view things differently. She never believed that she'd like a "geek" and was even surprised at herself. Sometimes, you'll discover another side to yourself that you never thought you had, like her. I recommend this book to anyone who likes love stories.

Marisa picks up the wrong cell phone after punching a guy at the hospital. When she tries to return the phone she meets Rene, a total geek, and it's love at first sight. Marisa is street wise and Rene is a total nerd whose mother is not fond of her son dating a girl like Marisa. Can these two unlikely kids really bring out the best in each other? A charming book that will appeal to kids of all cultures and backgrounds.

Marisa called Rene to give back his phone and so they star hanging on, later they fall in love and they have to start fighting their differences. This is a really sweet book, I loved it.
