I get the impression, sometimes, that this is more the type of fiction that "grown ups" like me are supposed to read - books that have main characters whose kids are getting married and whose marriages have ended. Usually, when someone says something like that to me, I tell them that they are ridiculous, because I am only 32! Years! Old! and I'm not married and I don't have kids. Also, am not a real "grown-up", ask anybody. Plus? I have read a lot of those books, and they are sooo boring: I'm so...more
A fun, enjoyable story of a wedding, planned with the bride's wealthy family, the groom's divorced parents, and an over-involved girlfriend. The lush, over-the-top descriptions of the wedding details were spot-on and frequently hilarious, thanks to Claudia's (the girlfriend's) obsessive attention to detail. My only complaint was that the main character, the groom's mother, Darcy, was a well respected ICU nurse with gourmet cooking skills who allows her ex-husband's girlfriend to plan the rehears...more
I finally made it into Kathleen Seidel's recent releases. (The older romances I've been getting in the mail are all yellowed and delightfully reader-worn.)
My beef with some of Seidel's older books was that she didn't pay enough attention to the central love story. You could kind of sense her getting bored with the romance. With this book, she's given it up altogether.

One of the pleasures of being in my 40s is that I have lost the need to impress others with my cultural competence. Over the last year I have enjoyed choosing recently published novels at the bookstore or library based entirely on the triviality of the title font.
"Keep your mouth shut and wear beige" was an entirely satisfying fun read. Chick lit at its best, with tons of relationships and insights into relationship, satisfying growth and improvement for our main character. This one managed to h...more

Mike, most reasonably, has left Darcy, certain that she is the cause of all their problems. As their two sons move on into their own lives we see that things are not all as they seemed We come to know Darcy in the ambit of middle–aged women and Mike as he strives for the life he believes he deserves. Seidel's insights and awareness leave no doubt of the depth of her research—her characters are 'real' and their frailties point up the difficulty of the early choosing of a life–partner.
Definitely a light read. Upon purchasing it I did not expect much, but really enjoyed it. I though Darcy was clever and kind, working hard to become the person she truly wanted to be. It was interesting to watch how the characters grew and learned from one another. While the wedding seemed a bit overboard for me, the stresses of the situation seemed real. I was drawn into the characters, rooting for Darcy, Finney, and Annie the whole time!
"Keep your mouth shut and wear beige"--classic advice for the mother of the groom. Unfortunately, Darcy Van Aiken isn't your typical mother of the groom. She's an ICU nurse with ADD, and she's still extremely bitter and insecure since her recent divorce.
When her son, Jeremy, gets engaged to Cami, all of Darcy's insecurities bubble to the surface. Cami's family is extremely wealthy--how can she compete? And there's another issue: her ex's new girlfriend, Claudia, the Martha Stewart of the sewing...more

It was okay. Nothing special. I could identify more with the mom than the pseudo-step-mom which is weird, but she was a BITCH. (The pseudo-step-mom..) Kinda pissed me off because I've been in her position and I did everything I could to put the kid before anything else, but it seems like in every book I read it's the evil step-mom all over again. Something new, please??
A fun read - the author humorously tells a story of a divorced woman of a son who is marrying into a wealthy family. She suffers such indignities as not being invited to the rehearsal dinner by her ex-husband's horrible girlfriend. Not as good as A Most Uncommon Degree of Popularity, but still a good read.
First impressions are often wrong and is certainly true with this book. Would a new mistress really take over the wedding planning of her new family as Claudia tried in this book? Not very realistic I thought. Once I calmed down and let the book flow I started to really enjoy it. It is a touching and funny story about families and friendship.
Apparently all I want to read is books about women who have their husbands leave them and then go through some kind of mid life crisis. (Previous read wasFifty Is Not a Four-Letter Word)
That said, I really enjoyed this book! It is wonderful to watch how people develop and learn to stand up for themselves and build friendships in a healthy way. It reminds me that it is so possible for me to make those changes myself, to be a healthier person emotionally, physically, spiritually. A quick read, eas...more

I'm really confused by this book. I wasn't expecting much, and to be honest, was seriously considering returning it to the library without reading it; as I really wasn't sure why I checked it out in the first place. But I got sucked in pretty fast. And then I couldn't put it down; didn't *want* to put it down. The story's nothing spectacular and the main character is kind of annoying at times. The editing is horrific with the grammatical errors and typos. But I really liked it. And I want to kno...more

Nobody, unless you would like to be bored to death
This was probably the worst book I have ever read. There was no way I could read on since the book was so incredibly boring.
