A world of smells and sensations is all Clara knows. She is not bothered by her blindness: she was born that way and it has never been an impediment to move around easily. Raised by her aunt Trinidad, she lives in a small village of a Latin American country in an area devastated by the guerrilla warfare. Since she was a baby, Clara smells everything around her and, over ...more

There are writers who make their words the focus, crafting language, and there are storytellers for whom the words are secondary as they focus on telling a tale that really sucks the reader in. My goodness, Cinzia De Santis is such a storyteller. The simple yet elegant prose allows the reader to meander through the lives of the characters, becoming fully involved and invested in the narrative. This book isn't usually what I read. I usually read something along the lines of Harry Potter or something that involves dragons. I received this book in a free giveaway for an honest review. That is why I'm explaining what I usually read so you can gauge how you will like this book or not. Anyway on with the review!
This book came across like a fable or legend of some sort. Which was refreshing compared to what I read most of the time. I liked the plot line and the way she wrote the story made

It is an amazing book to read, with an extraordinary easiness to read, takes you through the daily life of a culture which seems impossible to believe that such still exist in the 21st century.
