I started out really liking this book about Ruth a spunky orphan who came out west thinking she was a mail order bride, but then finds plans have changed. When she is proposed to by an 80 year old miner she runs away, following Marshal Dylan McCall to Wyoming. The book started out with a fun adventure/ romance theme, but then got a bit cheesey. The author is Christian, which is nice beacause it's clean, but when the Christian element of "saving" is introduced, the story kind of stopped there.

I guess I liked the book fine, but it wasn't one of her better books. I'm just wondering how many of her leading females are going to threaten their men at gun point and still end up being loved and cherished by them by the end of the book. Ruth's situation didn't grab me as being sever enough to run away. She could have easily set things straight by announcing the misunderstanding. The old man was more annoying and silly than a fearful suitor. She wasn't in danger. Ruth was supposed to be this...more

I loved this story! It was sweet and challenging and Lori did a good job with the transformation of the relationship. It's refreshing to see relationships that start out at odds to develop rather than buck each other to the very end. Thank you, Lori!

There were a couple of discrepancies that disappointed me. In Glory, Marshal McCall said he had two brothers, but in Ruth, he was an only child. Also, Harper turned out much different than I expected. Though she wasn't actually physically described i...more

I picked up this book (and the others in the series when Borders was closing doors... read the first 2, already, started the third one, and feeling antsy to read the other three!
they are set back in the the 1800's and they are all about unfortunate women (girls) who feel they need to answer a mail order bride ad to have a life... then we follow the story of what happens after, leading up the the arranged marriage... there is scary moments, and really funny moments... very worth the read!

When the marshall's conversion and his proposal of marriage come within 2 pages of eachother I thought I might toss my cookies! It was just too much for me! (Even though I didn't mind the rest of the unrealistic story line. I told my husband at one point that the heroine had just saved her guy from an Indian attack. You should have seen his eyes roll! hehe.) Definitely not as good as her other books. And just so you know- I do not consider my comments a spoiler. Of corse she ends up eith her guy...more

like the previous book in this series, this one had some good twists and turns. kept you almost on the edge of your seat a number of times.

a few things about the story seemed unbelievable, but again, i think that's "just" because it's such a totally different time period, that i've not experienced some of what the main female character has/had

great turn around at the end

off to the last book in the series!

It was a totally clean, wholesome love story. As it is a Christian romance, there were elements of conversion and preaching. I enjoyed it and will read more in the series.

I like Lori Copeland's concept of writing a series about Mail order brides. But I wish it had been researched more and far far far less cheese and sap.

I just started this book, but I read "Glory" and it was very good. The beginning vgrabbed me more than the end, but I still enjoyed it.

At this point in the series, the books begin to get a little repetitive, especially if you're like me and have to read the whole series at once :) But by itself I would say that I really enjoyed "Ruth". The characters were feisty and interesting (though after the initial introductory scenes, I thought they tamed pretty quickly - they had changed since the end of book 4).
However! I don't want to give the wrong impression! I did really enjoy the book, and was glad to get to read Ruth's story. As t...more

I think I liked this one best so far. More exciting, or something. I think it helped me realize how much better off we are in the 21 century, and yet how much more we complain. This book wasn't wrapped up neat and tidy at the end which I liked as well.
Sherri
At first I thought this was about a fun, spunky woman then it turned cheesy on me. I thought it was over the top.
Teya
THis was a good fast read. Clean, slightly preachy at one point, however really good.
