This book is not very historically accurate, but I still enjoyed it for the most part. The main character, Faith, is far too tomboyish for her time. She sometimes wears overalls in public and no one thinks anything of it. Trust me, women did not wear overalls in the 1800s. I don't know why some historical fiction writers have such a hard time with this fact.

I really enjoyed reading this good Christian romance.

In this book Faith travels to Texas as a mail order bride. She and her sisters all decided this was the choice God had wanted them to make after the unexpected passing of their father. Faith's choice is immediately questioned when she meets her grooms mother, who doesn't seem to want or like Faith's presence in her new life.

Faith struggles with creating her relationships with her soon to be mother in law and husband as several attempts to get...more

In the BRIDES OF THE WEST SERIES we learn that sisters Faith, Hope, & June have decided to become mail order brides. Faith is off to Texas to wed Nicholas Shepherd. When she gets there, she is met by a man of little words, and a mother-in-law that has nothing positive to say about Faith. She soon gets attached to the children of a...more

Faith, oldest of three sisters, decides to become a mail-order bride because her elderly aunt can no longer afford to take her in. Thinking she has found a good match in Nicholas, she travels west only to be disappointed more and more each day. Nicholas turns out to be indifferent and his mother a shrew.

I really was torn about my feelings for Faith. On the one hand, she put up with WAY more than I ever would have from that pair. On the other, she was a good person who deserved better than the tr...more

I really enjoyed this book. Faith and sisters decide to become mail order brides to secure their futures. Faith arrives in Deliverance, TX and there is drama from the very start. The stage breaks an axle and she arrives to meet her rich husband and the rest of the town dirty and hot.

I am going to read the three other stories in the series because I really enjoyed this book. This is a historical romance with Christian undertones so there is no steaminess and that is okay because it is not needed...more

I picked up this book (and the others in the series when Borders was closing doors... read the first 2, already, started the third one, and feeling antsy to read the other three!
they are set back in the the 1800's and they are all about unfortunate women (girls) who feel they need to answer a mail order bride ad to have a life... then we follow the story of what happens after, leading up the the arranged marriage... there is scary moments, and really funny moments... very worth the read!

I picked this up as a freebie for my Kindle because I've been devouring romances lately. This was a sweet read about a 19-year-old girl named Faith becoming a mail-order bride and traveling to Texas to meet her future husband Nicholas. Of course there are some hardships along the way, and we meet several wonderful side characters. The happy ending is touching, and I only wish I could have spent a bit more time with everyone. I'm looking forward to purchasing the other books in the series where F...more

Lori Copeland has more recently written heartwarming contemporary novels that may interest Macomber readers. In Mother of Prevention, tragedy strikes and cosmetologist Kate Madison's husband is killed. Moving with her daughters to San Francisco for a new job, Kate discovers the value of friendship and faith, as she and her family start their new lives. Copeland's tender stories are upbeat and old-fashioned in ways that should appeal to Macomber's fans.

It was rather disappointing. I couldn't picture the characters, and not because I didn't know what they look like, I have no problem with that, but their traits ere described and not shown. Some scenes were also described and not shown, seeming the author took the easy way. Heros' actions were unreasonable and the conflict was silly. And then love plot... I had a feeling they fell in love because it was expected from readers. A shame, because I like mail-ordered bride theme very much.

I always love to read Lori Copeland's book. This was a historical romance, which followed three women who decided to become mail order brides. I think this is probably the first of three books. It was mostly written about Faith one of the sisters.
I like Old West stories and this one kept me intested. It was a great change from the other books I had been reading. I would read the other two books of this series when they are available!

I got embarrassed that she was so boyish. No woman, even 19, would dream of being that tomboyish back then. Although Laura Ingalls was similarly boyish she knew that being that way in town was not acceptable and any woman, especially from Michigan (farther back east) knew that too!

DON'T like how Lori added kissing before marriage.

Otherwise VERY interesting, keeps my interest very well!
Would read again.

What a wonderful story that Faith turned out to be. I really enjoyed this book alot. I admit, I really got annoyed all throughout the book, with Liza who is the groom to be's mother. But, this is a nice story, with a truely wonderful ending! If you like happy ending books, then this is one you need to read! This is the first book in a series of 6, so I am off now to start book number 2!

I got this as a free e-book on my Nook and have not been able to stop reading the series. They are pleasant Christian historical western romances involving mail order brides.

Amazon Book Description:
Best-selling author Lori Copeland kicks off this historical Western series with this pleasing tale of mail-order brides set in 1872. When their pastor father dies suddenly, leaving little money, three sisters realize that they need to take drastic action to survive. Each answers a newspaper ad solicit...more

Three sisters put an ad in the paper- when their father dies. There is no one to marry in the town they live in. So they chose to put an ad in the paper to see where they will go. The are looking for Christian men.

Faith and Nicolas don't get along too well. Faith it the first in the series. I enjoyed the adventure and the bickering.

I found this story to be good overall. Some of the areas seemed to drag on, for example the cattle drive. Also the constant use of the word "conceded" seemed to grate on my nerves. But the story idea was good and generally sweet under all that negativity displayed by the Shepards.

The Brides of the West series is some awesome books! I just loved them. A patron on the bookmobile donated a couple years ago and we fell in love with them so much, we bought them all! They are clean books with a happy ending and that is what I need to read now in this stressful time.
Serene Heiner
Even though this is the first book in the series, it was actually the third book I read.
So far it has been my least favorite. The characters kind of got on my nerves. But it was still a fun book.
Seems like the books get better as you go through the series.

A pretty typical historical Christian romance - quick read, happy ending, not outrageously well written, but no glaring faults. It was a free Kindle download, and I'll happily add it to my library of fluffy comfort books that I can finish in a few hours.
Flora
Fantastic! Lovely Christian messages floated throughout the text the whole time, but Lori Copeland was able to do so without pressing her personal beliefs on you. A well written novel that was near impossible to put down.

a great story about courage, self-sacrifice, inner conflict ...

quick and easy read. a reminder of how hard our ancestors have had it. we REALLY should complain less and be more thankful!

"Wanted: Women with religious upbringing, high morals, and a strong sense of adventure, willing to marry decent, God-fearing men. Apllicants may apply by mail. Must allow at least two months for an answer." This is the premise for the story of the Brides of the West series. Faith is the first in the series and she is one of sisters who decides to answer the mail-order bride ad. She and her sisters decide that to become mail-order brides is the answer to their problems of living with an aging aun...more

This story shows how the jealousy of a mother can drive a wedge between her son & his bride-to-be. Faith was a brave & industrious 19 year-old. The story had its ups & downs but was a good read.
Frankiejohnny
A really sweet Christian Historical Romance. Three Michigan sisters decide to answer ads for mail-order brides. This is book 1, about the oldest sister, Faith, and her adventure in Texas.
Jennifer Edwards
Enjoyable to read. Inaccuracies throughout, but that didn't deter from the story for the most part. A few redundancies, but other than that it was a good read.

All Lori Copeland's books follow a simple writing formula. That is why she is my "fallback" book reads. I am guaranteed to be uplifted. A way to get in touch with my inner thoughts and untangle the threads I've tied myself in.

This book kind of dragged. I liked the story, but the points of view/tense it was written in bugged me for some reason. It was more tell than show.
Notbagels
It was an okay fluff read, but very predictable and the kind of infuriatingly poor communication I hate finding in Christian novels.
Heather
What's not to love. Pioneers, romance, mail-order brides... It may be predictable but I still enjoyed it. Of course it was free.
Rachel
Another free book I found for Kindle. Wasn't phenomenal, but it wasn't bad. Kept me intrigued, I wanted to know what was going to happen. I liked the Christian aspect of it, though some people may not. Good for a quick, free read :)
