For eight years, single mother Grace Archer has been living a picture-perfect life raising her daughter on a horse farm in the small town of Tallanville, Alabama. Watching Frankie grow into a talented and confident young girl has made Grace as happy as any mother could hope to be. Happy enough, even, to forget the past. But the past never quite goes away. Which is why a ce

Is there such a thing as a 1/2 star?

HORRID..........
Written so bad I can't describe it. Read by a woman who tries to do men's voices badly and women's voices with a silly whine. Flirtations [constant] with sex in a ridiculous childish manner. The author must be sexually frustrated, a spinster with cobwebs over the strike zone........

iris johansen books are always hit or miss for me. she was the one who brought me out of YA and into romantic suspense, which i suppose some people would argue i'm too young for, but i've loved the genre ever since i read killer dreams. however, i've come to realize that so far every book i've read of hers has different plots, but in actuality they're all the same concept with the same characterization. i haven't quite delved into her deep enough to make that a fact but for the work of hers that ...more

This is just a romantic novel/drama--good beach read for Hawaii. If you like horses, you will especially like this book. I would read another book by this author, but not too many at a time. I think I am ready for a little more meat.

Here is the official summary:

For eight years, single mother Grace Archer has been living a picture-perfect life raising her daughter on a horse farm in the small town of Tallanville, Alabama. Watching Frankie grow into a talented and confident young girl has made Gra

Grace Archer and her daughter, Frankie, have been in hiding on a horse farm in Alabama when they are found by the ruthless killer who has been searching for them for 8 years. Jake Kilmer, Frankie’s father and Grace’s former trainer for the CIA, is determined to protect them. This highly action packed tale of outrunning and out maneuvering the killer is well done, but fails make a believable story. The hero and heroine are too perfect and the killer too all-powerful. The obsession with the untrai ...more

Despite negative reviews, which I read after I started the book,I really, really enjoyed it. I didn't go into it thinking I was reading the next Pulitzer Prize winning title. I literally found the book under the seat of my car, and since I like action/mystery type books, I decided "what the heck". It kept my interest every step of the way, I read it in less than 24 hours and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I am going to the library today to pick up a few more of her books. I won't give details of the s ...more

I've got half way thru this book, but I just can't do it anymore. It hasn't been able to hold my attention for more than a few pages at a time. I will have "read" 20 pages and only absorbed 1 or 2 of them. It just doesn't seem to be going anywhere. This book is just not for me! Onto the next :)

You know a book is bad when the audio book keeps you awake merely so you can make scathing, sarcastic comments about the story, the writing, and the narration. On the other hand, I didn't drive off of the road in the middle of nowhere Idaho, so I suppose it did its task.

Only ready about 70 pages. THis is the female "heroine" I dislike. Soooo tough and strong, etc. But is weak in love. Will do anything to save her child. It's so cliche! Can't care at all about the main character.

I am not thoroughly impressed, it was a good romantic thriller, but heavily weighed to be more like a romance novel. Grace is a strong woman who tries to be independent, but still needs love. This book felt much more like a romance novel, with PG 13 sex scenes. I myself like to delve deeper and read books with much more suspense; a thriller that keeps me on the edge of my seat. I loved Frankie and Graces parenting tactics, but thought the characters were undeveloped and thought there was more ro ...more

I finished it. And it wasn't terrible, but there were quite a few eyeroll/groan moments. Good story, a little hard to follow, but terribly cheesy.

Predictable but fun. There are some spots that read a little slow and the passion is a little on the heavy side for me, not so much for its explicitness but for the lack of control of the main character with the one guy. That kind of overwhelming lust doesn't match up in my mind with the other traits of the character. The author does try to show the protagonist's struggle with it, as she recognizes the same thing I felt, yet it still felt that part was a little contrived to make the reader feel ...more

This must've been written before Iris Johansen really got her game on. Her Eve Duncan series is more familiar, and definitely shows how she has come with suspense/thriller writing.

"On the Run" was read in less than 24 hours, it's a very fast, not-too-deep thinking read. If you like Iris Johansen and are familiar with her work, go ahead. Nothing lost, not a bad story, just good for waiting at the doctor's office, or waiting for your husband to get out of Lowe's. If you aren't familiar with Iris J

Over the last few years, when I've seen an Iris Johansen book I've automatically assumed it would be an Eve Duncan thriller. I was wrong about ON THE RUN, but I'm still glad I picked it up. A quick read full of passion and suspense, this book is written in the typical Iris Johansen style and is still a really good read.

Nine years ago, Grace Archer worked for the CIA under the direction of Jake Kilmer. Their job was to infiltrate the compound of Marvot, an evil kingpin who ruled El Tariq, Morocc

If you had to hide from some really ugly people how would you know it's ever safe? If you would do anything to protect someone yet they didn't want the help it, how do you do it? How far can you run when there comes a point where you can't run anymore? Safety is a priority but when you don't have it you fight to get it. This riveting tale of hide and seek was worth staying up all night to read. Highly recommended read. enjoy :)

I listened to the audio book. This was the first time I 'read' anything by Iris Johansen, and to my surprise, she's from Atlanta, like me! Maybe we'll cross paths one day!

I enjoyed the story and the main characters. The daughter, Frankie, lost me a few times and I had to remember that the girl, though eight yrs old, was very smart and wise beyond her years. Since I love audio books, I appreciate a voice actor who can capture the individual voices of each character and bring them to life. Sadly,

I needed a book which was set in Alabama for the state challenge, so choose this one. It was okay. Pretty much your typical man and woman get together, have fight, she leaves only to find she is pregnant. Nine years later, an old enemy finds her, and old boyfriend charges in to save the day. They finally figure out they love each other and it all ends happily ever after. Yuck!

This book felt like it was written by editors. The man's hands were scratchy and the woman's were soft - how overused it that? If they had said "the pair" (to refer to a pair of horses that were talked about like they had magic powers) one more time, I was going to scream. There was also a huge cast of characters that I couldn't keep straight at all. Someone had worked for someone else, but now they were on the other side of things because someone else made something go bad. There's the obligato ...more

I would never consider Iris Johansen a genius of a writer. Most of her stories involve predictable plots, with cardboard or cliched characters and all of her suspense has a degree of mild romance (the romance may be major feature of the story, but it's going to pretty clean). This story is no exception. But the reason I read Iris Johansen is not because her stories are stellar, but because they're easy to read, relatively fun and are not emotionally draining. This is just entertainment for me. T ...more

Wow. Worst. Dialogue. Ever.

Ms. Johansen has always been hit and miss for me... this was a huge miss. Not even sure why I finished it. But I did. The characters and the lines that were written for them were all so unbelievable. The main character and her pretentious daughter were insufferable

I've been reading her more recent books lately and I've been finding myself disappointed. The aspects I really liked in her books were the action, the suspense, the thrill. It all felt so real, I found myself catching my breath. In this book, I felt the action was there, the suspense visible, but the thrill faded very quickly. I found the beginning pretty exciting because there was this unknown past and who knew what Grace had done before raising a child? But after finding out, the whole book ju ...more

I felt that this book was close to being an exciting thriller. There were a few slow spots. The bad guy was stated he was bad, but I never really felt he was bad. It was worth a read on picking it up, but not to keep going in a series or jump right to another book by this author.

In another powerful standalone thriller from Iris Johansen, she told us another fascinating dark tale that left us breathless with every page turn. For single mother, Grace Archer, she would do anything to protect her young daughter, Frankie. She raised her on a small Alabama Farm and watching her grow would make her forget the past. Somehow it never went away, since someone named Jake Kilmer watched over them during the past couple of years. When someone threatened to ruin their peaceful life, ...more

On the Run is the type of book people take to the beach. It is an easy read, the plot not too complicated, the dialog brisk and light. In other words, it takes very little chances. The entire novel had that Lifetime-made-for-tv-movie feel about it. Not really worth the effort.

I personally loved the action and hot romance. I also liked the familial love between Grace and her daughter Frankie. I recommend this book for anyone. Action packed with a spice of romance is the recipe to this great book!

Absolutely AWEFUL!! Could not even finish it. The writing was horrible, banal, boring and predictable. I don't know how this book can have 4 stars in this portal? I do not recommend this book.

A real page turner right until the end!

This is a great book with an unusual cast of characters and setting. I'd recommend this highly to all my friends!
