i starrted today, ddnt stop until i reached chapter 6..
i dont know why i started it in such busy time with studying..
i think am in luv with it..
may b i can prove my english by starting to read english novels.. i mean written in english coz this novel is in Afghanistan..

The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini introduces an unfamiliar, harsh life in third world countries in turmoil, but at the same time, enables me to relate with the protagonist, Amir, in many ways. Encountering environmentally and emotionally challenging obstacles, Amir learns lessons from each of them, regardless of whether he manages to overcome the challenge. I have been able to develop my own interpretation of the lessons Amir learns from his difficult moments and absorb them personally, feeling more attached to the protagonist and the book.
As Amir grows up, he recognizes the hidden love of Baba that he craved for as a child. By immigrating to America from Kabul, Afghanistan, where he lived in a wealthy family, he notices everything that he took for granted including all the things that Baba has done for him. He thinks to himself, “I thought of all the trucks,…he bought me in Kabul. Now America. One last gift for Amir”(Hosseini 141). Along with the sudden realization of Baba’s endless support, he also realizes how much Baba has sacrificed to provide for him. “For me, America was a place to bury my memories. For Baba, a place to mourn his”(Hosseini 140). Noticing the self-sacrifice of Baba, Amir comes to appreciate his situation, which he has never observed to be fortunate ever since his prosperous childhood. Like Amir who realizes Baba’s love, I also recognize my mom’s sacrifice. For the past two years in Louisville, people around me always have been telling me about how I should be so grateful to my mom and how I should take care of my mom as best as I can because she is going through a rough experience in a foreign country just like Baba did. Although I knew that my mom deserved to be respected, deep inside me, I was a little annoyed, thinking that people are exaggerating about her importance because my mom does nothing but to give rides, cook food and does laundry. She did not have to go to school, socialize, or stress out about academic achievements. Instead, she just stayed home, relaxing every day. I have secretly envied my mom’s plain, smooth life and thought that I, as a stressful student trying to fit myself in to a new environment, am the one who really needed the encouragements, not my mom. However, the novel enables me to observe a similar situation like mine in third person’s view and I notice that my mom and I had different purposes when we came to America. I am staying here, suffering and spending time for my own benefit and my own good. However, my mom is here, sacrificing her time and giving up her comfortable life in Korea, not for herself, but solely for my future even when knows she is losing the life that she used to know and love. After reading the novel, I understand the depth of mom’s sacrifice and truly appreciate her brave decision.
Along with the genuine appreciation, the novel also brought me shame. On the scene when Amir, for his own safety, neglects Hassan, his loyal servant and a true friend, getting beaten up by the bullies, it recalled my embarrassing memories in sixth and eighth grade. As a sixth grader, I always had friends around me and never noticed how being a loner is both a physically and emotionally difficult experience. Unaware of our cruelty, my friends and I would bully the loners by making them come to a secluded place in school and insulting them. After I went to middle school, I deeply reflected my wrongdoings and was confident that I had grown up and would not make the same mistake again. However, I proved myself wrong when my closest friend from the same class got in to a fight. My friend was losing the fight and I knew that I had to make a decision, to stay loyal like a true friend or to neglect my closest friend’s difficulty for my own survival. I decided to betray my friend. The decision I made that day, along with my sixth grade memory, are two events that always embarrass and depress me. Not only me but everyone, regardless of their gender, job or birthplace, has memories of neglecting others’ difficulties, memories that they want to erase. Amir’s human nature shown in the novel enables readers from various/every backgrounds to develop a deeper connection to the novel that takes place in a third world country, where people might consider as a place too far away to have similarities with their lives.
Through the whole book, I imagined myself in Afghanistan, Pakistan and San Francisco and fully empathized with Amir. When Amir felt appreciation, I felt appreciation and when Amir felt guilty, I also felt guilty. Through Amir’s honest character, Kite Runner evokes empathy and reflection in me, making me aware of my surroundings and the importance of morality and consciousness.

This is a story about the relationship between Amir and his servant, Hassan happening their childhood in Afghanistan.
Hassan was a sacrifice person. When Hassan said to Amir that he will do whatever for Amir a thousand times, I cried for his sprite of sacrifice. The book, The Kite Runner was one of the best novels I have ever read in my life. Once I grabbed the book in my hand, I sat for hours and read.
The novel begins with the recount of the relationship between Amir, who is a son of rich family and Hassan, son of servant in the house. Setelah selesai membaca 'A Thousand Splendid Suns' nya karya Khaled Hosseini , lantas aku tertarik pula untuk membaca buku perdananya yaitu 'The Kite Runner'.

Untungnya Jenk Ine yg baik hati - salah satu teman penggila buku bersedia meminjamkan buku tsb (eh tukeran dink kala sabtu kemarin). Tak pernah kusangka negara Afghanistan memiliki penulis berkualitas.

Kerasnya kehidupan yang dialami manusia-manusia afghan tak lah lantas menyurutkan daya dan semangat hidup mereka.Dalam buku perdana nya (yang tidak setragis buku ke dua) Khaled merindukanku akan kehadiran teman / sahabat yang benar-benar dapat diandalkan.

Tak berlebihan kiranya , bila saat itu Ine melafazkan kalimat tenar yang begitu berjiwa dimana menjadi ruh isi buku : 'Untukmu , keseribu kalinya' - "For you, a thousand times over" yang membuatku sempat bergidik bila meresapinya. Sebuah pengabdian yang tulus. Rahasia yang mesti dijaga rapat demi menjaga martabat nama baik keluarga. Penyesalan yang kerap menghantui hampir separuh jalan hidup si pembuat dosa.Kesempatan yang datang untuk menebus kesalahan fatal , kesemua itu adalah sub-sub poin yang menyentuh hati nuraniku.

Gaya tulis Khaled Hosseini termasuk halus dan cukup kaya akan kejutan. Ia suka bermain dengan time frame yang cukup panjang, melompat dan mengulang. Tokoh-tokoh utama sarat akan nilai pembelajaran dimana sangat membuka wacana untuk membuka diskusi karakter dan berpotensi pula menciptakan keriangan bunga imajinasi liar dalam hal menentukan pengembangan alur kehidupan sang tokoh utama sebagai rekreasi kepuasan setelah membaca ;)

Pengkotak-kotakan derajat seseorang dikarenakan silsilah yang bertingkat pada satu sisi memasung keadilan dengan mengklaim sebagai hak ekslusif manusia tertentu yang dengan lancangnya merampok hak asasi Kuasa Ilahi.manusia..oh..manusia(less)

A touching novel about friendship, fraternity, and betrayal. Amir and Hassan were always together, they were just like two peas in a pod. Soo much days they spent together, including chasing the kite. But one day, Amir became a coward since he decided to run when Hassan was in a danger. An amazing book, I found myself unable to stop reading at times. I felt the horror of some of the events hit me right in the stomach, as well as Amir's guilt and regret. The relationships were beautifully described, such purity there.
I also found the descriptions of the country and politics/war there fascinating, as it was something I didn't know a lot about.

hmmm the kite runner....
ceritanya bagus.... ngena banget....persahabatan yang tulus, yang didambakan oleh banyak orang...

tapi sebagai muslim, agak aneh juga memang membaca buku ini, seperti ada sisi yang hilang. Dari semua yang saya yakini kebenarannya seperti dibantah oleh buku ini. Novel memang berisi cerita fiksi tapi paling nggak background ceritanya adanya yang nyata, dan dalam cerita ini backgroundnya adalah masa kerajaan afganistan, russia lalu taliban.

Penggunaan sudut pandang pertama yang digunakan mampu menghanyutkan pembaca terbawa dalam arus melankolis sang pencerita. Dengan latar belakang Pakistan dan Amerika novel ini menggambarkan kisah jatuh bangun Pakistan masa prarevolusi, meskipun saya tidak begitu yakin apakah Taliban yang di gambarkan dalam buku ini seperti itu adanya. Mungkin hanya fiksi atau sebuah sudut pandang untuk menguatkan karakter Amir.

Tiap kata-katanya mengandung kekuatan hingga membuat kita tak ingin melewatkan satu kata pun. Begitu dalam dan sangat indah. Seperti saat Hosseini menyampaikan filosofi layang-layang dan rasa bersalah yang memacu untuk berbuat kebaikan.

Tetapi bagi saya, buku ini terlalu melankolis untuk seorang lelaki yang mungkin disengaja untuk menggambarkan karakter orang Pakistan.(less)

Kisah tentang tiga lelaki Afghan yang tidak biasa. Ayah yang rasional dan tidak saleh, meski tetap keras kepala dan berharga diri selangit, serta cukup berhasil jadi kaya.

Inti buku ini ada pada naik turunnya hubungan si anak dengan ayahnya dan lebih-lebih dengan bujangnya. Si anak tahu dia kurang membahagiakan ayahnya, karena tak seperti ayahnya yang jantan perkasa, dia cenderung lemah. Karena ibunya telah meninggal dia sangat rindu berakrab dengan ayahnya.
Sehari-hari, dia menghabiskan waktu dengan si bujang, termasuk saat mereka memainkan layang-layang dengan asyiknya (dari sinilah judul buku ini diambil).
Sampai suatu ketika dia mendapati si bujang terancam dan dia hanya bungkam.
Menutup rasa bersalahnya, dia menjadi kejam pada si bujang, yang tak juga membalas. Anehnya dia mendapati ayahnya malah terkesan membela si bujang. Sampai suatu ketika, ayahnya, si macho sejati itu, hampir menangis menahan kepergian si bujang dan ayahnya dari rumah mereka.
Si anak sendiri, hanya bisa terus menutupi dosanya ke balik selimut.
Sampai aneksasi Rusia atas Afghan memaksa mereka hengkang ke Amerika. Hidup mereka merangkak dari bawah tapi dengan keteguhan si ayah dan jaminan sosial di amerika, hidup mereka tak buruk-buruk amat. Apalagi kemudian bakat menulis si anak menuai hasil lumayan.
Sampai suatu ketika, dia mendapat undangan dari sahabat lama ayahnya yang sudah mengungsi ke Pakistan. Afghan sendiri tengah menjadi paria di bawah Taliban
Dia tertarik pulang karena menangkap isyarat berkesempatan mengobati luka lama. Rasa berdosa pada bujangnya.
Bujangnya sendiri telah meninggal, tapi dia punya seorang anak. Yang lebih penting, barulah dia tahu, bujangnya itu adalah saudara tirinya. Dia pun nekat terjun ke Afghan untuk menyelamatkan keponakannya.
Ternyata dia menemukan musuh masa kecilnya yang jadi petinggi Taliban. Dia pun dihajar. Tapi dia malah merasa lega. Dia seakan membayar kebungkamannya sekian puluh tahun silam, saat si musuh mempermalukan bujangnya.
Dia berhasil kembali ke Amerika dengan keponakan. Tapi sayang jiwa sang keponakan terlanjur terpaku di Afghan, si keponakan jadi makhluk tak berjiwa di Amerika.
Sampai kemudian mereka bermain layang-layang.
Penuh kosa kata dan budaya Afghan, membuat ruh tanah negeri itu terasa melekat sepanjang bacaaan. Cerita tentang pembebasan jiwa yang memukau.

Kalau sampai menangis sih engga...kubilang bagus karena ceritanya bagus untuk persahabatan dan pelajaran hidup, bagaimana pengorbanan itu diberikan..terlepas dari kebenaran latar belakang ceritanya..namanya juga fiksi.. tapi dari membaca buku ini, aku jadi pengen tau sejarah mengenai negara afganistan itu sendiri, maklum aku bukan termasuk pengamat politik..

I really enjoyed this book. I was emotional and moving. It opened my eyes to the tragedy of the world that they kids grew up in. The hardship they faced when their world gets turn around by war and the personal tragedy faced by these two young boys that shapes and effects the rest of their lives. A recommended read.

I loved every chapter of it. The tragedy, the little things in it made me thirsty for more. And my favorite quote is "for you a thousand times over."
My favorite character's Hassan needless to say, and Amir wasn't bad after all.
The author's way of telling the story was perfect, a must read book.

This is probably one of the best books I've read this year. It took me 6 chapters to get into but after that I read the last 200 pages in one day. It is incredibly sad though and the description of violence was... a bit intense for me but I can't stand violence at all so It probably wont be too bad to the average person.

a great book, the main character is not ur usual hero but has his good and bad side which is refreshing. its an honest book with shocking moments and some sections are really upsetting. it takes a lot for a book to make me cry but this book did just that.

tokoh utamanya juga digambarkan begitu manusiawi.
aku juga terkadang seperti dia.

The book has some stuff on the making of the movie. It has great photos too. Most of the book is the shooting script. I would have given it five stars if it had some more info on the making of the movie. Interesting book though.
