I highly recommend this book. I was inspired to write about it for Frankly Penn, the blog of the University of Pennsylvania.

Wandering on Madison Ave in Manhattan last week, I noticed paparazzi everywhere. After asking, a woman told us, with tears in her eyes, that JLo was eating lunch. I would have missed her. She did not look “So Perfect” but she is stunning. As I left New York City for Philadelphia for my twenty-five year college reunion, I have been thi

Rachel Michael Arends' book As Is is a good story about media's sweethearts - how easy it is to achieve the positions and how easy it is to loose it.

The story is told by four leading characters - Gwendoline, Armand, Smith and Caroline. It all starts as another day in So Perfect house - another shoot for the program, goodbyes to everybody for the long weekend ... and next morning it all changes. The So Perfect world falls apart - the marriage wasn't real, she knows nothing about how to be househ

Typical

Your typical feel good chick lit. I liked that each chapter was from a different persons perspective but the plot was very predictable. Everything I thought was going to happen, happened. Main character was kind of annoying in the sense that she wouldn't stand up for herself. But other than that, it was ok. A very quick read.

Before I get onto all the great bits of this book I'll start with the only bad bit, how I couldn't stand Armand for a second, I just could not stomach him. More than that though I couldn't understand how Gwendolyn could still be so nice to him after everything that happens and everything he does. Without Armand Gwendolyn is simply quite a sad person with a heart of gold trying to find her place in the world but with his presence and her responses to him she comes across as a lot weaker than she ...more

What a fun summer beach read! AS IS is about a Martha Stewart type TV show with a happy couple and their perfect life... the show is even named "So Perfect!" The stars lives completely fall apart when it comes out that their perfect life is a sham.

The story is written from the perspective of each character, which makes it easy to see things from their point of view and the main characters - Armand and Gwen - are very likable!

As a huge fan of DIY television shows, I loved reading about how they

I liked the story, but I loved loved loved the prose. Something about being broken resonated with me. Some of her simple phrase was so dense with meaning.

I received this book as an ARC from Diversion Books through Goodreads Giveaway and am excited to have the opportunity to review it! The main story line is a good one: both timely and apt. A seemingly perfect lifestyle couple turn out to be as much of a whipped up creation as one of their fancy desserts. As their story unravels, different perspectives prompt new tales to begin that will eventually relate back to the central story. The author writes well and the book moves easily through geography ...more

As Is was such a great read! Ms. Arends has a unique, natural ability to craft beautifully complex characters while maintaining a light, relatable feel. Several times while reading I found myself drawing connections between the characters’ lives and my own. Nothing seems contrived! She is new to the scene, but I am already excited to read her future writing! If you are a fan of well crafted, interweaving story lines and characters that you learn to love and hate, As Is will grab you immediately ...more

Sincere and warm thanks to Netgalley for providing electronic ARC, in exchange for an honest review. :)

The good:
- Liked the characters and differing points of view
- Wanted to get to know Smith better - IMO, he was the most interesting character in the novel

The bad:
- Smith's accident reveal - there's got to be more people in the town!
- Armand was a little bit of a parody than a real person

Random note: Could've played up the producer as more evil - there wasn't a "solid" v

Gwen has left behind her small town hometown for the "So perfect" life. Things are great, until it all comes crashing down. Her show, talents, and marriage are all exposed as a sham and Gwen returns home to confront the past she left behind and the person she has become. An entertaining, inspirational read.
