This was quite a book....the couple's relationship was one that most could not have lived with...this was an adventure most would not have considered taking, most would have turned back as the crew ended up just being the two of them....these two people looked at life and the things that are important to them in a way that will seem odd to the typical Mother and Father...At times you may want to toss the book across the room just to go over, pick it up, and continue on with their hair-raising tr ...more

Like watching a train wreck…agonizing and terrible but one cannot look away. This the story of dysfunctional people in a dysfunctional relationship, ill-prepared and ignorant. They should have died, they should have killed one-another, they should never have been seen again. By the grace of fortune they survived and Reanne told the tale through the lens of her re-memorying. I sense her telling is honest, a fine foil for her husband's hubris. If you meet a man like Don Douglass in any capacity, i ...more

Chanticleer Editorial Book Reviews
In Cape Horn: One Man’s Dream, One Woman’s Nightmare, Réanne Hemingway-Douglass vividly recreates a sailing voyage in which she and her husband Don set out to round Cape Horn. As the reader discovers, they never quite got there. Meanwhile, Hemingway-Douglass shares the heady magic of starlit nights and breathtaking dawns, grueling and toilsome days, emotions ranging from joy to absolute terror, and a determination not to give up hope when all seems lost.

Situated on the southernmost tip of South

There was too much profanity for me. I thought it odd when agnostics curse God and then pray to Him to save them.

Why any sane person would choose willingly to do this is a mystery to me, but this is a tell-it-like-it-was autobiographical story, and the author pretty much summed up the tale in the subtitle of this book. It's amazing they survived and are still married. This is a well-told tale of adventure, hardship, ingenuity, and survival--in short, a fascinating real-life read.

A book that was more like a diary than a tale. You felt the fear and the triumph of a very brave woman and her journey and battle of life and death.

Lacking the modern capability of self-publishing without an editor, this hilarious book would not be possible.
