Read the book shortly after the movie came out in theaters, I have been a fan of Harrison Ford's Indiana Jones movies for a long time, but I never read the novels except for this one and I must say it fills in the details of Indy's life such as being
kidnapped and part of Pancho Villa's army(If anybody remembers the short lived Young Indiana Jones Chronicles on TV) and his rocky relationship with Marion Ravenwood from Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Yea he now older but he still kicks Ass!! His e...more

Though not the best of the movies, "Crystal Skull" makes the other novels completely inferior. The whole thing is SO much better if you've seen the movie, though. Some dialogue is different (and maybe a wee bit bland), scenes are slightly altered, and occasionally there's a moment of "oh come on, why didn't that end up in here" questioning. However, areas in the movie that weren't fully unearthed are better explained in the book, which gives you a full reading experience, ...more

This is a pretty good novelization of a movie, giving us more insight into what's going on than we get in the hectic pace films usually give us (especially an Indiana Jones film). I enjoyed the way we got to see more of who Indy is at this later stage in his life, with all the creaking of bones and injuries slowing him down, but also with all the knowledge and wisdom he's accumulated. The looks into his private life and the regrets he has for some of his life are very interesting. This is a good...more

I saw the movie before reading the book, but it didn't take any enjoyment from my reading. I have read all the Indiana Jones books and have enjoyed them all. This is no different Rollins nails the story and characters and as always I love to read movie novels because you get the whole inner thoughts dialog that you don't get while watching the movie. I'm also glad an Indy novel got the hardcover treatment. I would like to see Rollins try another Indy novel.

I read this to gain more insight for the movie. (which I saw and enjoyed) People who have not read other Indiana books will probably find it really boring, lacking in background, and too cheesy with lines and dialogue. But it is a fun action packed mystery type story that is basically a written script for the movie. Don't expect to be blown away by its literary quality and you will do fine.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom Of Crystal Skulls is based on the fourth film. Years have pased since the last story. He's now a lot older and makes it harder to deal with job in hand.
He's up against the Rusiains and set in from the 1950's. He's some new friends to help him. As well as some old ones.
Nothing is what it seems when it comes to friends and foe alike.

AH! Yay. I will so read this when it's released. This could actually be good. I don't believe it, they went to someone who writes good action/adventure books to write the book version of an action/adventure movie. I'm actually looking forward to the novelisation of a movie. There might be something wrong with me.

James Rollins tie-in novel to the summer blockbuster doesn't add a lot to the screenplay. The novelization is extremely faithful to what you see on screen which is fine, but after reading Peter David's great work in the Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk novelizatons, this one just paled by comparison.

James Rollins did a fine job, as I knew he would, of adapting a mediocre script into a pretty good novel. Not quite the quality of his originals. But considering what he had to work with...
It might be nice if he could be turne loose to write an original Indie novel.

An ok book. James Rollins is a good writer, however as well as it followed the movie, I was hoping for more information, more character development.

Even though I just finished reading it, I really really loved it. My favorite part of it was when Indiana Jones told Mutt that he was a teacher and he did lots of cool stuff when fighting the cemetery warriors and Mutt said, "You're a teacher?".

James Rollins is a great adventure writer, and I have enjoyed his other books, but I was pretty disappointed with this one--seemed like little more than a screenplay with added descriptive material. I'd rather watch the movie.

In honor of seeing the author give a presentation today at Borders in Sacramento (and briefly meeting him) I've decided I ought to give one of his books a try. As I already like Indy, this might be a good place to start.
