“The name is Jones. Indiana Jones.”

He’s back. Everyone’s favorite globe-trotting, tomb-raiding, wisecracking archaeologist is finally at it again–hurtling headfirst into high adventure and relying on his wits, his fists, and his trusty bullwhip to get him out of deep trouble. But the man in the jaunty brown fedora and battered leather jacket is no ordinary digger in the di...more

Bram
This book had a couple serious obstacles to overcome right from the start. Serious enough that asking "why did you read this, Bram?" is not only fair, but fully expected. First, it's a movie tie-in that's an adaptation of a made-for-film story. Presumably (and one could certainly say obviously), this story is better told on celluloid. Second, it's easily the weakest of the Indiana Jones stories that have been made into movies. And considering that Temple of Doom and The Last Crusade, which I lov...more

I have a couple books by James Rollins, but Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is the first one I’ve read. I figured it would probably be the least like his normal style since it’s a novelization so I wouldn’t be shocked if it was very different from his usual style.

I was a little disappointed with the science fiction ending of the movie when I first saw. I’ve come to see the logic with it having seen the movie a second time and read Rollins book. The original Indiana Jones movie...more

With all the criticism and hate that this new addition to the Indiana Jones franchise got, I feel like somewhat of a loner when I say I loved both this movie and the book. In my personal opinion it's a great addition and a thrilling story. I loved reading it, and was enthralled at every turn of a page.

It starts off with a scene that's not in the movie, with Indy deep in ancient ruins in a South American rain forest with his old British friend George "Mac" McHale. Indy falls into an underground r...more

Indiana Jones is back! Well...Sort of. I picked up this book hoping that a NYT bestselling author would be able to somehow improve upon the steaming pile of excrement that was the movie. One would think that wouldn't be very hard to do. I know that novelizations of films are usually trash; but I have occasionally encountered one or two that managed to redeem some incredibly awful source material: FANTASTIC VOYAGE by Isaac Asimov, DICK TRACY by Max Allan Collins, and STAR WARS: EPISODE ONE by Ter...more

Ah Indiana Jones... I loved the movie so much I went to the theatre to see it ... twice! (if you know me you know how rare that is for me). The book was no disappointment. It was just as action packed as the movie and certain scenes were certainly better than the changed versions in the movie.
If you loved the movie you'll love the book!
For those of you who haven't scene the movie ...

I made sure to read this after I had seen the movie because I did not want to know any details about the movie. I always do that, so I can be surprised. Having seen the film I knew the basic outline of the story, but there was enough different in this book to make reading it interesting. What stood out for me was that I had heard James Rollins discuss writing this book at one of his book signings and he said he had been given an advance copy of the film's script. Knowing this makes me wonder why...more

This is the worst book I've read all summer. Going to Spain, I thought I'd pick up a quick, entertaining read for the plane and trains. I hadn't seen the movie, so I also figured that I wouldn't have to see the movie. It certainly was a quick read. Was it entertaining? If a washed-up author aiming for mildly retarded middle schoolers and/or aficionados of the movie is entertaining, then as Sarah Palin would say (probably after having enjoyed the book), "you betcha!"

After finishing it, I left it...more

An ok book. James Rollins is a good writer, however as well as it followed the movie, I was hoping for more information, more character development.

Sorry, I just couldn't give it a five despite all the hype, or the fact that Harrison Ford did most of his stunts, or the fact that he finally almost instantly gets hitched to Marion (though I liked her the best in all his films), or the fact that he finds a son who takes all of ten minutes to decide to like him and call him dad, or the fact that the cinematography and visual effects are stunning! Yes, it was funny, had a great story premise (cold war drama) and wonderful characters (that was no...more

Alright: to start out, let's just say - I'm a huge Indiana Jones fan. So good or bad, I'll probably like it. This adventure was fantastic. Now make note, I haven't seen the movie, nor most likely will I until it comes out on DVD - that's partly why I wanted to read the book before I saw the movie: because the wait would be too long. So all the details in the book lived merely in my imagination, and not from memories of the silver screen. Obviously that makes the need for good description all tha...more

This was pretty disappointing. I got the audio book, reasoning that it might be fun to able to listen to the movie for road trips and the like. I really enjoyed the movie, but this is one of the weakest adaptations I've read, and I've read a few. Ok, not they're usually all that great. This is competently written, but the author really fails to communicate the spirit of the film, which is what I was going for.

It starts promising, showing a scene with Oreana that wasn't in the film and a differe...more

Membaca buku ini tidak bisa membayangkan Indy yang sama dengan yang ada di buku ini:

http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/13...

The final nail in the Indiana Jones franchise's coffin.
(view spoiler)[An old Indi is kidnapped by russians, along with a loser kid, who turns out to be his son by the woman from the first Indi movie. Aliens are at the heart of this adventure and they all go into a big black hole at the end or something. (hide spoiler)]

Glad I read the book and didn't spend money on seeing the movie.

This was a good adaptation of the movie although much slower paced in parts. It's well written, the characterisation is spot on and does give a better insight into the characters and the events preceeding the film.

I love the Indiana Jones movies, but I had never read one of the books. I listened to the audio version of this one and it was exciting and I wanted to not stop. Kind of like the movies!

really? I didn't know he was the one who wrote the recent franchise of Indie Jones. Gotta read this. I bet the book is better than the movie. Well, there's only one way to find out

Read the book shortly after the movie came out in theaters, I have been a fan of Harrison Ford's Indiana Jones movies for a long time, but I never read the novels except for this one and I must say it fills in the details of Indy's life such as being
kidnapped and part of Pancho Villa's army(If anybody remembers the short lived Young Indiana Jones Chronicles on TV) and his rocky relationship with Marion Ravenwood from Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Yea he now older but he still kicks Ass!! His enemies...more

Just finished reading this book. Storyline was so so in a way it wraps up the Indiana Jones series for now... I believe the movie would be better. :)

Very disappointed. I really enjoy James Rollins original stories, but he seems to have 'phoned this on in'. Of course, so did Lucas & Spielberg.

One of the best movie novelizations I've read. It includes a few scenes that weren't in the film that really help tie things together and establish characters.

It felt like I was sitting next to Indy, Mutt, and Marion on their quest for the legendary Crystal Skull of Acator. Great read, you should read this.

Though not the best of the movies, "Crystal Skull" makes the other novels completely inferior. The whole thing is SO much better if you've seen the movie, though. Some dialogue is different (and maybe a wee bit bland), scenes are slightly altered, and occasionally there's a moment of "oh come on, why didn't that end up in here" questioning. However, areas in the movie that weren't fully unearthed are better explained in the book, which gives you a full reading experience, unlike the others (whic...more

Fantastic adaptation of the film! It's always fun to read these and get more insight on scenes that weren't included in the film.

It was amazing it was an atomic book that took me 1 week to finish because of my addiction towards it o it was an outstanding book!

A light, enjoyable breezy read which follows the film pretty faithfully. While I enjoyed the film...what can I say? I'd rather read.
Barbara
A faithful rendering of the movie, which means it is interesting and fun...but I miss the complexity in Rollins' own creations.
Donald
This is a pretty good novelization of a movie, giving us more insight into what's going on than we get in the hectic pace films usually give us (especially an Indiana Jones film). I enjoyed the way we got to see more of who Indy is at this later stage in his life, with all the creaking of bones and injuries slowing him down, but also with all the knowledge and wisdom he's accumulated. The looks into his private life and the regrets he has for some of his life are very interesting. This is a good...more
