Finally! (Twa-ta-ta-taaaaah!) I've reached the end of the Hungry City Chronicles!
There's no point in summarizing Book 4 if you haven't already read the first three. In brief: if you like sci-fi, you need to read these books.
My thoughts?
People are saying this quartet rivals Lord of the Rings and His Dark Materials in terms of depth, themes, and re-readability. I agree, although I think Reeve is a more stylized writer than Tolkien or Pullman. Not better -- just . . . there's a certain...more

Impressive ending to one of my favorite sci-fi/fantasy series of the last 10 years. I love a strong finish! It took me a while to get into it given the 2 years since I read the last one, but the last half just flew by. Strong world-building, clever tidbits throughout, and great balance of character-driven and action-driven.

It's rare that a series continues to interest me this strongly right to the end. I love the last book in this series almost more than the three preceding books. I don't think it's because I got attached to the characters as much, although that might be part of it. I just really really like the ending.

I don't normally buy books, but I liked these books so much that I bought them. My son is now reading them, and he's recommended them to 2 of his friends. You'll chuckle at the references to ancient artifacts and events.
