God where to start with this, I loved the fact that it's pure kiwi at it's best, I remember the quake like it only happened yesterday, sitting here in front of my pc and I get a private message asking me if I had seen the news about the quake, turning on the tv with mouth wide open looking at the destruction that

This book has blown me away. I absolutely loved it and I'm not easy to please!!! It's one of those books you pick up in the hope that you'll like it only to find that it's one of the best books you've read this year, or even ever!

It tells the story of the horrific events back in 2010 in Christchurch, NZ, when they were hit by a massive earthquake. The story goes straight into the unfolding disaster as witnessed by Kate and her boyfriend of 5 years, Daniel. Kate loves Daniel with all of her hear

This was such a wonderful and heartfelt read. I loved reading about New Zealand and the little differences compared to the States.

Your life could change any minute. Kate and Daniel were spending a lazy morning together; they just walked out of a movie at the local cinema when Kate’s life changed forever. A massive earthquake begins and Daniel’s main concern is Kate’s safety. In the end his last act on earth was to push her to safety.

Kate is understandably crushed by this event and the death of Daniel. There is a scene right after the earthquake when she sees the building; Leanne Pearson wrote it so poignantly that

As many of you know, I don’t tend to read many new adult contemporary books. I’m not a big fan of angst and drama and that’s something that they often tend to bring to the table. So I avoid them. When I was approached about this one I was on the fence but decided I’d give it a try because it’s set in New Zealand and it’s a S. African/NZ author. My experience has been that these are two fantastic things. I’m really glad I gave this one a try because I ended up thoroughly enjoying it regardless of ...more

When you're young you think you can do anything, that the world is at your finger tips, that nothing horrible could ever happen.

For Katrina 'Kate' Smith, it only took a series of seconds to change her life completely. At 23-years-old she was with the man of her dreams, the love of her life, Daniel. They had everything mapped out, a

From the dedication and initial preface, I knew this book was going to touch me……

For each thorn, there’s a rosebud…

For each twilight-a dawn…

For each trial-the strength to carry on,

For each storm cloud- a rainbow…

For each shadow-the sun…

For each parting…sweet memories

When sorrow is done. (RW Emerson)

Although the story is fictitious, the events surrounding the lives of Kate, Daniel, Travis, Sarah, Matt, Melanie, and Dom are real. Police say more than 100 people had been lost in Christchurch's quak

They were soul mates until the terror-filled day when they were ripped apart. Kate struggles with the loss of her other half, she doesn't know how to move on until Dom walks into her life. Fractured is a story of two broken people who help each other heal and become whole. Kate lives through a tragic event that caused her to lose her boyfriend. This event leads her down a path of flashbacks, depression, and alcohol. Dominic is a war veteran who has walked a similar path and understands what Kate is going through. Though Dom manages to go through life, cutting off thoughts and emotions regarding his time in the war, but at times they surface.

To start off, I think that my feelings on this book were colored by personal experience, taste, and my current stressed-out mood while reading it. None of these things are the fault of Pearson, nor are they an indicator of her writing talent.

I wanted to love this book. Really, it sounded great, and I heard some wonderful reviews, including a raving 5 star from my co-reviewer, Kame. We had planned on doing a double review and discussion, and I was looking forward to it.

I was given this ARC for an honest review and when I first started this book I was not sure if it was going to be a kind of book that I would enjoy. I got about 20 percent into the book and absolutely fell in love with the book and the author. This was the first book that I have experienced by this author and I can not think of another book that I would want to start with for the first time by an author. It was a book of love and lost. It takes awhile for Kate and Dominic to finally realize what ...more

Fractured is Leanne Pearson's debut novel, and it's a good one too! It's a bit of fact mixed in with fiction. I loved how the author pulled in real events to make this story work, it really grabbed me right from the first chapter.

One fateful night Kate talks her boyfriend into taking her to the movies, little did she know that one event would irrevocably change her life, forever. Struggling to pull herself from mourning Kate is caught in a self-destructive downward spiral. No one has been able t

I got this book from the author and Paranormal Romance & Authors that Rock for a review. Let me start of by saying that I adored this book!! It pulled my emotions all over the place!! Kate had it all, she was in love, had a great job, and had her whole further ahead of her. It all changes one day and her world is taken from her. Leanne Pearson just pulls you in and makes you feel all of Kate's emotion as if they were your own. There were times that I had to set aside the book and take a deep ...more

Get your kleenex ready! Within the first few pages you are thrown into the chaos as a disaster unfolds with an array of words detailing the account to a "T". Pearson's writing sucks you in and doesn't let you go until very last word on the page lingers on your lips. My heart strings were pulled in so many directions with Kate and Dom's own personal traumas as they struggled to move on and live each day. Kate is dealing with the loss of her boyfriend of 5 years and Dom is tortured by his past. ...more

I had the pleasure of reading Fractured when it was still in draft form. Even then, it was beautifully written with poetic prose that had me feeling as though I was in the room with the characters. Seeing. Feeling. Experiencing.

After surviving the horrific earthquakes that killed her boyfriend, Katrina needs to find a way to rebuild her life.

So filled with grief, her life spirals out of control until the steadying presence of ex-marine, Dom, gives her a reason to slowly let go of her despair an

Let me tell you that the way this book opens up your emotions are on high alert, tears will sting your eyes and you will feel heart broken, but the problem with starting a book with such a heart tug means that the rest of the book needs to compare and keep those emotions going. Unfortunately, I am not sure they did for me.

I was crying my eyes out for Katrina, Kate, and what 24 seconds took from her. I have made no secret that loosing my husband and love is a great fear of mine, so this tapped i

This is the story of loss, heartbreak and the hard and long journey back from grief. It's a story about learning to move on, even when it seems like you never will. It's the story of what happens when two people so broken and lost find each other and realize maybe, just maybe there can be love after loss.

Our main characters in this story are Kate and Dom. After suffering the loss of her long time love and boyfriend, Kate is struggling under the heavy weight of her grief. Suffering from the stagg

This was a really good book. Reading about life in another country, what it's like to grow up where you think that nothing can happen to you. Not knowing the in the blink of an eye your life can change. That the life you once had, will never be because of that split second change. In this case, a natural disaster changed the life of Kate. She endured love and loss and devastation as her whole life got turned upside down. Losing the love of your life is hard enough when that person has been the ...more

"I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads."

This starts out as such a weepy, that I wasn't sure I would have enough tissues to see me through. But a bit like life as we know it, things move on, feelings change and the author captures this beautifully. That isn't to say that I didn't need more tissues later on, but it is a book of hope and conquest over demons. I loved it. The writing is fluid, the characters are strong, and weak, and all messed up and somewhat put t

Being a kiwi myself (not from Christchurch) this book was some thing I could relate too....and I really really wanted to love!

I don't know why but I found it irritating the amount of times I had to read about Kate and her guilt over finding a new attraction....i read it in so many different situations in so many diff ways that I was about to give up! I got it! yes it was a hard situation but come on...move on with the story.

I honestly didn't understand why Kate joined dancing.....I still can't.

Great read enjoy romance novels, dealing with hard hitting emotions, love stories, and a HEA!

Side Note: This was interesting story to me dealing with something that we don't see as often with women as we do with men, which is the tale of a "broken woman" who needs help putting herself back together versus the other way around. Lately, we've seen tale after tale of the broken man (which I love) but I loved that this was different. The entire story paints a very grim picture that you are
