In a follow-up to last year’s popular Dog and Bear: Two Friends, Three Stories (Roaring Brook, 2007), the dachshund and teddy bear companions are back for three more chapters detailing their friendship. In “Ice Cream,” Dog gets angry at Bear, for reasons unknown to the reader, and threatens to run away from home. Bear refuses to escalate the conflict and instead makes helpful suggestions about what items Dog might want to pack in his suitcase. In the end, Dog decides to stay after Bear ...more

I'm not sure how I missed Dog and Bear's debut last year, but I'm so glad I picked up this second book of their stories. The three stories included here are simple and humorous illustrations of friendship. Now that I think about it, these friends and their stories remind me quite a bit of George and Martha (two of my all-time favorite characters). The illustrations are great too - simple and bold. I'll put this on the list of books to own when I have a beginning reader in the house.

This is not a book I would use for storytime mainly because it is really three stories in one book. I do, however like the stories, and I think the nature of them lend themselves to a kindergarten-1st grade level. This would be a good book for beginning readers too.

Sorry, I know the world is gushing over this series. And the pictures and stories do have charm. But the format is picture book and the text is beginning reader, and I'd rather have it one way or the other. What's all the fuss for?

Dog and Bear are back in this next installment to their friendship. Like the last one, there are three short stories that are appropriate for toddlers and young children. The simple, but bright illustrations help make the story.

I saw this author speak at a conference last year and really liked her a lot. But for whatever reason it took me until now to read Dog and Bear. I love the illustrations. The stories are short and sweet (it's a 3-fer).

Great friendship stories similiar in feel to the Frog and Toad stories. Good for younger kids to listen to but could also work as a beginning reader for kindergarteners/first graders.

For some reason, neither this book nor its friend work in storytelling. The kids seem to be confused/put off by the different stories.
