I love the way this author brings the old west to life with vivid descriptions, accurate history, and compelling hardships. On her wagon trains heading west, they leave graves along the roadside, some filled with the bones of children, and there is a definite human element to all of it, so that you can't help getting teared up.

sigh... Maggie and Rafe! This was a hard book to a point to convince myself it was okay to love because of Maggie's budding relationship with Rafe while still married to Edward. Once I allowed myself to see past that and really take a deeper look into Maggie and Edward's relationship and just experience the story, I was captured! Getting to experience the travels out west in almost a diary-type format was a neat switch. I loved watching Maggie really blossom and Rafe find ways to love and ...more
