Yay! More Pretty Little Liars! And don't you fear, the second book did not disappoint. But, unfortunately, the first one was better, but only a little bit. This book had its crazy moments, and the ending was amazing. The girls stories really grew crazier and bigger.

Thinking back on each of the girl's parents, I am just like, those parents are the worst!! Can't any of those parents allow the girls to be different or take chances? But that is pretty much my only negative thing about Flawless, and...more

The second book to the Pretty Little Liars series, Flawless, we're back and we're following the lives of the four reunited friends - Emily, Aria, Hanna and Spencer. Three years ago, their best friend disappeared without a trace and was never found - until now. Alison’s body was discovered in her old backyard, but the question is, who was the one to put her there?

While the police open the murder investigation for the second time and hope to have more luck, the girls are made to go through the tough process and the loss of their best friend all over again. You think seeing it plastered all over the TV and reliving the moments of their friend, the late Alison DiLaurentis, is enough to worry about but all of the girls are still being harassed by the mysterious -A. The threatening anonymous messages aren't letting down and could unravel the lives of the girls at any moment - one by one. Making them admit their deep dark secrets or spilling the secrets for them.

A bitter breakup takes place after Emily’s boyfriend witnesses a same sex smooch between her and her new friend Maya. Emily can't deny the sparks that fly between them and the way Maya makes her feel but is too scared to travel down the lesbian road because of what her friends and family might think or say about her. Trying to keep her mind off Maya and convince herself out of the inevitable, she turns to a blast from the past.

Some relationships come to halt in Aria's life, thanks to -A. The first is the marriage that ties her family together after her Mother is let in on a little secret that Aria has been keeping quiet for her father - an affair with one of his students. The second is the forbidden romance between herself and her hunky English teacher, Ezra, after he thinks she is talking openly about their relationship.

Everything seems to be crumbling away for poor Hanna. Her life is spiraling out of her control and she can't seem to get a grip on it. Newly single, getting caught stealing, a DUI and just when she thinks she might be getting her father back in her life, her ugly (on the inside) step-sister makes sure that it's never going to happen with her manipulative ways.

Who was caught with their hand in the cookie jar? Spencer was. She covets her sister's boyfriend behind her back and gets caught red handed. After her perfect older sister runs to tell the family, they pretend like Spencer doesn't exist at all and forbid her to see Wren ever again. Will she listen? Of course not, she is young and in love. In the end, will things work out like the fairy tale Spencer had imagined?

Like I said in my review for the first book in the series, it's a fun and light read to pick up. I had it glued to my hands the first time I read it because it just sucked me in with all the drama and mystery. I like that the girls deal with real problems like relationships, family issues and sexual orientation. The only thing I didn't like is that the girls aren't open about what -A says to each of them and what their own secrets are. I don't know why, but it just irks me to hell. So all in all, I really love this series but if you're not into drama filled YA series for teen girls then this isn't the book for you.

The events of "Flawless" occur immediately after "Pretty Little Liars". The four girls meet after the funeral of their deceased friend and share some of what the mysterious "A" has threatened. They separate, swearing to keep each other posted...but when "A" returns to taunt them, they find themselves unwilling to reveal their deepest secrets. Aria has her eyes on a boy who used to be Hanna's boyfriend. Hanna's actions in the last book come back to haunt her, and she is forced to work in a burn clinic. Her relationships are all over the place--Mona is feeling left out, her dad reappears, her boyfriend dumps her. Spencer's relationship with Wren is proving to be more difficult than she thought...how can she balance all her AP classes AND Wren? And what about how her parents have been ignoring her? And Emily is more confused than ever about who she is when she meets a really hot guy...Toby, the stepbrother of Jenna.

After the intriguing and deliciously juicy "Pretty Little Liars" (and knowing I would need a light read for flying), I had to pick up Book 2. And I was impressed at how it balanced giving the audience more, answering questions while raising the stakes and giving us more to ponder.

The characters are really beginning to stand out. Last book, I mentioned how the four girls felt interchangeable at times. Not so here. Each girl has her own struggles, her own style, her own likes and dislikes. I love how each one makes excuses for hiding her secrets; I love how each one has a different take on who "A" is; I just love the diversity that is brought to the table.

This time around, I felt the secondary got even more time to make an impact. Melissa, Spencer's sister, really was a backstabbing bi-otch, while I saw a glimmer of compassion from her father. Sean got more interesting through his conversations with Aria, and I really admire Shepard for making Meredith a character and not just "the bad guy". Toby was fascinating; Mona was great.

The thing I find most impressive is how Shepard is able to push the story forward while still keeping it interesting. This is a mystery at heart; to keep the mystery of "A" shrouded for even this long is impressive. And not once does it feel forced. We get to learn more about "The Jenna Thing"--and there is a revelation about "The Jenna Thing" that I expected, but was still shocked to see. And yet, while we learn more about this mysterious event in the girls' past, not once was I bored or no longer interesting in reading more. Instead, I am more curious...I want to know who "A" is!

One complaint I do have is with consistency/continuity. The primary example was this one: Aria and Sean are out in his car making out. She gets a text from "A". Then we switch to Hanna's POV, and Hanna confronts Aria and Sean making out inside where the party is. How did Aria and Sean get inside and go back to making out so quickly after the text? I don't need a play-by-play report of what everyone is doing, but it just didn't seem to make sense that Aria would run back inside and suddenly start making out with Sean. However, this is small, and I only caught the one instance of it.

As with "Pretty Little Liars", I want to make a few caveats for parents and teenagers. There are a lot of mature situations in these books. Sex, violence, alcohol, drugs, etc. This isn't for a young teenager. Mature teens and adults will love the situations (and who knows, maybe parents can use these books to talk with teens about these serious topics?); they are intricate, well-done real-life situations. Younger teens probably won't understand it, and it might be confusing.

"Flawless" is a great Book 2. It somehow manages that balance of asking and answering questions and also isn't boring or redundant. I'm already starting on Book 3.(less)

A jak to tak vypadá, A je nehodlá nechat na pokoji... Sleduje je na každém kroku a posílá jednu výhružnou a znepokojující zprávu za druhou. Všechny mají co ztratit. Emily se snaží svou slabost pro opačné pohlaví udržet pod pokličkou. Spencer se chce zavděčit rodičům, ale nikdy nebude stejně skvělá jako její starší sestra. Hana se musí vyrovnat s tím, že se její otec rozhodl znovu oženit a Aria netuší, co má dělat s otcovou nevěrou.

Knížka se mi díky českému překladu četla velice dobře. Stránky mi ubíhaly jedna za druhou a já si mohla pořádně vychutnat samotný příběh. Rozhodně oceňuji to, že při překladu nedošlo k překládání jmen či jinému počešťování. V tomto případě si myslím, že by to příběhu spíš uškodilo.

Pokud sledujete seriálové zpracování, odehrávají se vám některé scény přímo před očima. Je skvělé, jak moc se scénář drží originální knižní předlohy, přestože si některé skutečnosti přizpůsobil kvůli atraktivnosti.

Z dívek mi je zatím nejsympatičtější Spencer, protože sama vím, jaké to je, když toužíte po nějakém uznání, ale pořád musíte s někým soupeřit. Líbí se mi vykreslení jednotlivých vztahů mezi postavami, i to, jak na sebe navzájem působí a jaký dopad to pak má na okolí. Postupné odkrývání minulosti vás nutí dávat si různé indicie do souvilosti a vy se tak snažíte přijít na to, kdo je A.

Druhá kniha se mi četla mnohem líp než ta předchozí. Více jsem se začetla do příběhu a hltala jednu stránku za druhou. Dokázala jsem se více vžít do jejich kůže. Fandila jsem jsem hlavně Haně, protože mi přijde, že si toho zakusila snad nejvíc. Jen doufám, že jí štěstí brzo bude přát.

Knize dávám zasloužených 5 hvězdiček a těším se na pokračování, protože druhý díl hodně zamíchal kartami. V lecčem se od seriálu lišil, takže si myslím, že budete hodně překvapení. Já tedy byla. Sérii uršitě doporučuji všem, kdo mají rádi detektivní příběhy a pořádně intrikaření.(less)

După ce terminasem primul volum al acestei serii, începusem să mă gândesc dacă oare chiar merita să îmi cumpăr și să citesc și următoarele volume. M-a făcut să cumpăr următorul volum spiritul de colecție și opiniile unor englezi, care spuneau că acțiunea din carte e mult mai complicată decât cea din serialul TV. Și după ce am terminat de citit volumul 2, am fost imediat de acord.

When I think of Aria, Emily Spencer and Hanna I see 4 train wrecks. They are all derailing so fast it's making my head spin.

Several unexpecteds here, actually. For one thing, despite the gaping differences between the book series and the show, which I confess I like much better, I really kind of enjoyed this book in a guilty-pleasure way. I guess the seeds of that must have been there for the first book in the series, or I wouldn't have bothered picking up the second.

Even so, I wasn't about to, like, lose myself in this book. It's more that I discovered that it's the perfect read for when I'...more

I have currently finished reading Flawless by Sara Shepard. This book is part of the Pretty Little Liars series. This book is a continuation of the first book, which is called Pretty Little Liars. After reading this book, I realized that honesty is a main component to this series. I say that because the four girls need to be honest with each other at all times in order to solve the mystery.

The four main characters in this book are Aria Montgomery, Spencer Hastings, Hanna Marin, and Emily Fields...more I have currently finished reading Flawless by Sara Shepard. This book is part of the Pretty Little Liars series. This book is a continuation of the first book, which is called Pretty Little Liars. After reading this book, I realized that honesty is a main component to this series. I say that because the four girls need to be honest with each other at all times in order to solve the mystery.

The four main characters in this book are Aria Montgomery, Spencer Hastings, Hanna Marin, and Emily Fields. These girls keep getting mysterious texts from someone known as “A”. They all don’t know who this “A” person is, so that is what they are trying to figure out. Their friend was killed by this “A” person, so it makes it extremely hard for them to find out who “A” is. All four of the girls kept secrets with Allison. Emily admitted to Allison that she is gay. Hanna was once chubby and now extremely skinny. Aria is in a secret relationship with her English teacher. Her parents have no clue that it is going on, and she plans on keeping it a secret. Spencer is known as the perfect little rich girl, but on the inside she is boiling up with lies. Spencer has taken all of her sister’s old boyfriends and ends up getting away with it.

Throughout the book, a secret about each character has been revealed. Allison set fireworks on Toby’s garage. Due to that, Toby’s step-sister Jenna turned blind. Afterwards, Toby covered for Allison to make himself look like he did it. Throughout the book, all four girls think that Toby is “A”, but no one is for sure at this point.

Due to the other books in this series, I didn’t find out who “A” exactly is yet. But overall I didn’t think that a young adult book could be so intense. Every page is full of suspense but yet not too overwhelming. I really enjoyed to see how much the characters grew throughout the book and how they matured. There are still more books in the series that I have to read, and I am looking forward to doing so. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys suspense yet a little romance. (less)

MY OPINION:

The second book in the Pretty Little Liars series gets 4 stars from me. Spencer is still seeing Wren, and her family is still super pissed at her. Her parents even cut off her money by cancelling her credit cards (which sucked cause she found out while trying to buy books she needed for a class). Also, Aria is still brokenhearted over Ezra but is getting close with Sean Ackard, Hanna's hot ex who broke up with her when she tried to get in his pants. Meanwhile, as punishment for crashing Mr. Ackard's car, Hanna has to volunteer at a burn clinic, leading to a strained friendship with Mona. Emily is still struggling with her feelings for Maya, but finds some solace when she begins to like a boy - a boy she SHOULDN'T like because he was creepy as hell when they were younger. And all the while A continues to taunt the girls. Going as far as telling Aria's mother about her husband cheating, as far as informing Melissa that Spencer is still seeing Wren - which prompts Melissa to seduce Wren and leads to a break up between him and Spencer. And Emily? Poor Emily's secret may come out about her feelings for Maya. Also, the big secret of 'The Jenna Thing' is revealed. Turns out, Alison set off a firecracker in Toby Cavanaugh's tree house, accidentally sending it in Jenna's face and blinding the girl. Now the girls think Toby is A. But, he's also the boy Emily finds herself drawn to...

So this one starts up of them outside the church called, Rosewood Abbey, after Alison's memorial finished. With the four girls still poundering over A's latest text, the all famous one;

"I'm still here, bitches. And I know everything." - A

Which starts them to finally talk to each other but of course that doesn't last long.

These girls are very independent unlike how the ABC Family series show cases them. But I think I like the book b...more

Aria is just as bad off. Her steamy affair with her teacher has been called off, but now she's into Hanna's ex-boyfriend Sean. While her relationship is heating up, her parent's relationship cools off and A is anxious to slip the secret. Emily is still questioning her sexuality and her swimming career. Hoping to get her old life back she takes a certain someone to the big Foxy dance, but he could be more danger than good. Last but not least, Hanna is trying to get her ex back, but she has a little competition. Also, her dad comes back into the picture and with him comes his evil soon to be step-daughter. All this drama can't be good for a small town, but these four girls don't care. They'll do whatever it takes to keep their secrets safe.

This book was a thrilling follow-up to Pretty Little Liars. It answers many of the questions that the reader is asking at the end of the first book. We find out about Jenna and more about the lives of Aria, Hanna, Spencer, and Emily before Ali disappeared. This book is the perfect mix of murder, rivalry, romance, and mystery. Perfect for any girl who's ever wondered what those "it" girls have to hide! The series becomes even more enthralling because as soon as one question is answered another appears. Especially the question of who is A! Sara Shepard has definitely got me hooked on the series and eager for more.(less)

“Never trust a pretty girl with an ugly secret.” By Sara Shepard. I really like this book. I honestly only read it because of the show. When I started reading it I realized that the book was a little different that the show. To be honest I think it was better. The story is mostly about these 4 teenagers who are getting text messages from the friend that is supposed to be dead. This person who is doing it knows secrets about them that no one should know.

The main theme in the novel is good vs. evil. Although the power of friendship comes into play, the entire book is about the mystery of A and the plan to defeat him. Obviously the four high schoolers are good and "A is evil"(Shepard 4). Friendship is a key factor in the novel as well because when they stick together, A cannot hurt them. "He is trying to eliminate us one by one!"(Shepard 58) is what Hanna spoke when Aria went missing and Spencer was taken. The power of friendship and good vs. evil are the major themes in Flawless. I believe the themes in the novel were very fitting to the storyline, and I am glad Sara Shepard included the friendship because that really developed well-rounded characters!

The idea that there is a person stalking four teenage girls is astonishing. Expressed so well by Sara Shepard, the fear they go through everyday just to complete simple tasks amazes me. The concept of a stalker is very suspenseful and I applaud Shepard for creating a storyline such as this. This is a great idea for a novel!

Almost every character in Flawless is round and dynamic. All of the characters have flashbacks, and background stories throughout the series, so you come to know each character well. "I went through so much, I can't do this anymore!"(Shepard 327) said Spencer when they finally got off the train. They all change during the novel and become more observant and cautious due to their experience with A. Each character goes through so much in the book, I am surprised they haven't all just given up on A!

The subject of a stalker is a very serious topic. Although disturbing, Sara Shepard 'waters it down' so it is not too scary. She manages a balance between a serious topic and suspense; meaning it is not too weird, yet it is very exciting to read about such a subject.

The authors purpose of Flawless is to entertain readers with a fabulous story. And if I do say myself, Sara Shepard did a fine job of entertaining. She had action, suspense, and mystery of a fictional world. Thus, making the authors purpose to entertain readers with an excellent story.

Flawless is a success as a novel. It is entertaining, exciting, and overall great. it grabs you in and keeps you reading. I did not want to even put the book down when I started the first chapter. Flawless by Sara Shepard is overall successful due to it's excellent writing.

Flawless by Sara Shepard was a wonderful book and I recommend it for all readers. She is an exceptional writer who can create an action packed, suspenseful, and exciting novel.I rate this book 5 stars due to its mystery that draws you in. I believe it was a wonderful novel and you should read it too.(less)

Guilty pleasure that sometimes makes me feel annoyed for some of the things that happen in the books storyline. I am reading this second book after the shocking mid season 3 of the TV show and I feel bad for both endings, the book and the TV show.

This second book teaches many teenagers a lesson in life, which to me is to not let your enemy’s or friends get the best of you, this will only lead to bitting you back in the butt. The problems in the girls lives in this book are not that huge, this book has a very mild intensity rate, which makes it seem more uninteresting compared to the first one, only because the first book started at a high intensity rate. Overall I do suggest that you read this book if you have started the first one because the rest of the series is nothing but juicy gossip and more “A”

Personally, I think Flawless by Sara Shepard was not as interesting as the first book of this series. Except, I still really enjoyed reading this book and would rate it four out of five stars. To re-recap, Sara Shepard’s Pretty Little Liars series is about a group of girls who used to be friends, until Alison DiLaurentis went missing. The Hanna, Spencer, Aria, Emily, and Ali already had a strained relationship, but when Alison disappeared, so did all the things that kept them together. Years later, out of the blue, the girls begin receiving messages from someone calling themselves A. Somehow A seems to know all their secrets, things that they didn’t even share with each other—Secrets that only Ali knew. And they start to wonder if Ali could be back.

This whole series, reads to me like a mystery—a juicy, gossipy, mystery—Kind of like Peyton Place meets Agatha Christie. And here’s the thing about me and mysteries—I LOVE to read them, but I’m absolutely the worst at solving them. I do a little better when I’m watching a crime show on tv, because it’s almost always the guest star, or the most familiar person who isn’t a regular cast member. But in books I don’t trust ANYONE. (*SPOILER ALERT*) The first book, and the first season make it look pretty clear that Alison isn’t back, and that she’s not coming back either. But I don’t count anybody out until I see a dead body. And even then I want DNA. And proof that there weren’t twins switched at birth or alien embryos.

And Sara Shepard is SUPER crafty!!!! In Flawless, Aria has an assignment to talk about untrustworthy narrators…So far, I haven’t heard anymore about how the assignment went, but that sent up a huge red flag for me. Because of all people, you’re supposed to be able to trust your narrator; right?!? Except when you can’t. The series is told in the third person, from four different points of view—Hanna, Aria, Emily, and Spencer. They’re all teenage girls who admittedly have things to hide, and what about that makes them trustworthy? It seems natural to discount them as suspects, because otherwise, why would they be so nervous? What would they have to gain?

They might not have anything to gain, but if they are the suspect, then they certainly have everything to lose. Plus, I’ve read enough R.L. Stine not to discount a psychotic breakdown.

As to the main story, the girls are back, but still not friends. It seems as if the girls trusted Ali with all of their deepest, darkest, innermost secrets, and then never trusted anyone else ever again—not even each other. All of A’s messages had made them suspicious of each other, because who else could know their secrets; who else would Ali have told?—Of course, I’ve already given you one of my guesses as to how A knows so much, but the girls don’t have a clue. Even when they realize that they’re all getting messages from A, they’re still afraid of sharing their secrets with each other. And because they’re all still afraid of sharing and being judged, they pull apart even more. Each girl is struggling and facing choices, not always making the right ones, and they could all use someone to confide in, but each feel so alone. Hanna shoplifts and has an eating disorder; Aria is in love with her teacher; Spencer is in love with her sister’s boyfriend and constantly competing with her sister for their parents’ affections; Emily is afraid she might be gay.

These girls feel like their worlds are falling apart; they’re all just hanging on by a few designer threads. And A is holding the scissors.

This series is a wild ride, and as of book 2, the only person I’m counting out is Toby.
