What a fantastic story...for about 200 pages. Then the author decided he had better ratchet up the action at the expense of plot and characters and the book descended into formulaic violence from then on.

This is the first Morrell offering I remember reading, though I thought I had read a couple of his earlier thrillers. He is the author of the "Rambo" books which gave rise to the popular movie series starring Sylvester Stallone. I doubt if I'll go after any of his other ...more

Recono...more

It's a very good book! Even how gruesome or cruel your former life has been, you can still learn how to love. Love is a very powerful emotion, one does not really how what you can do if your lovestruck. This book made me a romantic :)

Fast paced action adventure thriller. It was interesting to read about someone who has resigned from the CIA and how hard it is to live a normal life afterwards. I did enjoy the Santa Fe setting for the story.

Outstanding; Ex-CIA agent battles terrorists, rogue agents, and the mob to save woman in witness protection program; constant action, one of my favorite authors.

I'd give this a bit better than a 3 rating but not quite a 4. I was looking for something heavy on the action and this delivered. I didn't fall in love with the charcters but Decker, the main male character, was certainly a tough SOB.

Began on 12/31. It is a fast page turner.
I had to give it 2 stars, I fondly remember reading Morrell's early works years ago, but this book seemed such a cliche. I could have written it, no surprises or twists, I actually expected most things that happened. hmmm.

Excellently written thriller. Great writer, twists and turns keep one guessing throughout the story.

Weaker than some of Morrell's earlier work. He still writes a great action sequence.
Craig
Great, another author to follow like Clancy

Re-read. A favorite. David Morrell includes enough background material to make the characters real and sympathetic and Morrell's research and descriptions really make Santa Fe alive.

With an upcoming trip to Santa Fe planned, I thought I'd re-read this to see if the attraction would return... it did.

It was good, not as historically based as some of his other ones. Not his best, but I loved the look behind your back feeling he creates in his works.
