The nonsense words are a ton of fun, but honestly it starts feeling too long after a while and I at least got tired of everything having gruesome lives/deaths. There was also a particular remark in regards to evolution (and I did like how it was a fun nonsensical intro to evolution in a way) that rubbed me the wrong way (scientists being clever, creationists being dumb). I'm not by any means a creationists, but being a creationist doesn't mean you're a stupid person, and I have found you're more ...more

One of my son's favorite series right now is the Flanimals series by Ricky Gervais. Of the books he's read, More Flanimals, is the one he likes best.

The first book introduced the Flanimals but left them pretty much as stand alone jokes. More Flanimals looks at their life cycle, food chain and evolution. Sean as a hobbyist monster creator loved reading about all these Flanimal factoids.

You may need to do some mouth exercises before you start reading this story. It is filled with tongue twisters created from made-up words, but has good language development words like evolution and behavior. The story also is a great for pointing to body parts, but gives different names fot them. Fore example, feet are floor flaps, legs are jump stems, and your fingers are your articulated grab sticks. Kindergarten and first grade students could use this as a story starter for writing.
