Richard Schwartz does to local history as Herb Caen did with his daily newspaper column......mines the gold sitting there under our noses. However, Richard goes one step further with the eye candy photos he brings to light for all to enjoy. Every town deserves to have a Richard Schwartz among their citizenry. Without him our sense of place would be prematurely defined.

What the Berkeley I walk and ride my bike through every day looked and felt like as it was being settled. It's a wonderful illustrated history.
I'm a Bay Area history buff so this book is awesome! It's not hardcore history but it's a good read and very interesting.
