I read this after reading Makeshift Justice by the author. It's a really odd book, in that it's almost a tragic romance mixed with a piece of chick lit, finding your way, growing up and learning to live sort of woman's piece. The characters, a snobby east coast Jewish woman lawyer and her adorable but precocious nine year old daughter are abducted by a hillbilly convict, whom she's freed from prison.
