This is a beautifully constructed tale of a German woman’s life during second world war and some time there after. The authors are thorough in their recount of this woman’s life as well as the lives of her ancestors (parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc).

Each character is well defined throughout this work and there is no-sugar coating their past. Just like in any family, all the members strengths and weaknesses are exposed.

A well written memoir about growing up in Germany during and after World war II. Emilie Tipton's memories are faithfully put into writing by her husband John.
The story starts out by recounting Emilie's early years when her family protected her and saw to it that she had a serene chldhood on their farm despite the turbulent war that surrounded them.
