In spite of its cheesy title and sensationalistic cover, this is a near-perfect true crime. I must admit I was surprised--the cover, title, and multiple authors didn't inspire confidence.

But "Eye of the Beast" sucks the reader right in, and does a great job of humanizing the victims, the lead investigator who finally nails Wood, and even the killer. Unlike lesser efforts, it doesn't dwell on the trial--any legal details are mercifully brief. It includes some really interesting behind-the-scenes

The girl and her sister who were kidnapped and lived, lived in my ward.
Mr Wood lived across the street from the school Roger worked in. This feels like a personal story. My friend Gaila was related to the girl who was murdered in Pocatello.

Great book! This is not one of the well known serial killers, but he is worth researching. In the interest of full disclosure, I know one of the authors.
