Evelyn
Clear and concise text that seeks to provide a 'historical frame' to British Social Movements and does so very well. Great book to start out with if you're interesting in activism and also makes good points about how movements can involve more people, as well as pointing out the problems that past ones have experienced. Get your library to buy this in if possible, otherwise the hefty pricetag might put you off.
