This is an enjoyable beach read. Very fast read. I couldn't decide between 2 and 3 stars but settled on 2 because there are too many things that I feel critical about. The writing is formulaic and dry at places. There are moments where I really didn't care what I was reading. For example, Hannah would write how a character went up stairs, put on pajamas, brushed their teeth and got into bed. These are normal life trivialities and they annoyed me. The other major criticism I had was, especially i

Kristin Hannah never fails to write books that grab me and pull me into the storyline, as if I am participating.
This is a story of family disconnect, of sisters who lose touch, due to circumstances that are beyond the control of children so young. It is about the ability of families to overcome obstacles, even those involving years of separation, and become what they once were, only better.
The characters portrayed are easy to like and associate with. The joy, the pain, the heartache, of life More...

Four stars seems like such a standard rating for me. I think my standard may have to become three stars...maybe it's that a I took a big break from reading so anything I pick up right now that holds my attention is "super-fun" to me!
Anyway - between sisters was another great Kristin Hannah book. I'm in - I will now be reading all of her books! I've yet to dislike one. Though I find them all a little heavy in that I'm waiting for the tears to flow once I reach the 3/4 More...

If you expect anything less than an emotional rollercoaster when you read one of Kristin Hannah's books, you've opened the wrong book. In this one, two mostly estranged sisters are struggling to move forward in their lives. Meghann is a lonely divorce lawyer who has lost her sense of purpose in life. Years before, she and her sister Claire were separated when their mother disappeared and Claire was reunited with her biological father. Claire is a single mother whose entire life is consumed w

Differences between siblings couldn't be more extreme than they are in this overwrought feel-good novel by Hannah (Distant Shores), a tale about two estranged sisters. Meghann Dontess is a hotshot, well-to-do Seattle divorce lawyer in her 30s, entirely focused on her career. Her younger sister, Claire Cavenaugh, a single mom living in a backwater town in the Pacific Northwest, takes care of her five-year-old daughter and helps her father run his low-key lakeside resort. The half-sisters were rai

Fast read. Really enjoyed the 1st half of the book. After a while though the story line reminded me of the movie 'Beaches'. I liked that movie. The plot just got too unbelievable in the book though. When Claire had a brain tumor and her estranged, top lawyer sister ended up falling in love with a homeless looking man named Joe who turned out to be a top Seattle surgeon, who then realized that her brain tumor could be operated on, it was a bit corny. The surgery is successful and Claire liv

This book definitely got better as it went along. Towards the end, I could not put it down because this was the time where everything started to come together-all the characters and their emotions, the events taking place-and it all fit like a puzzle piece. I liked the fact that many of the characters in this book changed for the better as a person due to the circumstances that took place. It was nice to see how their outlooks on life changed, especially Meghann, and it makes you realize how bli

This book was short but good--a great read for the beach, which is where I read it within two days. Kristin Hannah portrays likeable characters and a page turner, which involves some suspense and mystery. I would not be opposed to reading some more of her writing, but she does not seem distinct enough to rank high on my list of favorite authors, or even favorite romance writers. I appreciate that for a romance the story does not focus heavily on the bedroom scenes, however, Hannah's style does n

This KH book was a little bit better than the last I read. It didn't keep me on the edge of my seat but, it certainly was a nice reminder about family and how you have time to mend broken relationships...until you don't.
Sometimes I'm a bit too insightful for my own good and as a result ruin the story for myself. There were things that stood out to me that made the mid-book twist not as shocking as it should have been but I think that it lend's itself nicely to complimenting Hannah o More...

darn you, Kristin Hannah! I can't take books like this where I'm sobbing through the second half but still unable to put it down! I already went through that with your other book, Firefly Lane, lol. I did enjoy the book, but felt like it was very over the top fairytale. Who of us doesn't wish for everything to work out perfectly, incurable illnesses to be miraculously healed, true love winning out despite all odds. Sometimes its nice to read a book like that where everything works out just

I was really looking forward to this one as I enjoyed the first two Kristin Hannah novels I read, but this one was disappointing to me. The first word that comes to mind to describe it is "overdone". Overdone characters, overdone relationships, overdone storyline. Nothing original. I knew the ending of the book before I'd finished the first chapter. The writing was trite and the characters weren't well-developed - although that's okay because I already know them as they are the same as

Hannah's books are usually about lifes journey or about trials and errors. Lost love, heart break , finding courage and strength. She does a beautiful job with this book outlining the journey of 2 sisters with an irresponsible mother. After reading several of her books now, I kind of did find this particular story a little predictable. IT was still a good story and read and recommend it. It did bring tears to my eyes at parts, however, I didn't find it as emotionally jarring as Winter Garden

This is a great summer read. Two sisters raised by a self-centered mother whose lives diverge due to one of them going to live with her father. Claire, who goes to live with her father at an early age, is raised in a loving household and lives a fairly happy life with her father and daughter. Meghan, who had to fend for herself, has been affected by the emotional distance of her mother and the separation of her sister, and is trying to prove herself worthy by becoming a ruthless lawyer. The two

Enjoyed this book. Two sisters who shared a difficult childhood struggle to reconnect as adults. The younger sister was reunited with her father when she was nine, but the older had difficulty living in that particular environment and left when she was a teenager. As adults, they have grown apart. They live in two different worlds, one a successful lawyer and the younger content to stay in a small home working with her father managing a small campsite. Life changes allow the two sisters to recon

I love Kristin Hannah...I love her characters...I love her true-to-life stories! This novel is very powerful and has so much feelings; love, compassion, neglect, hurt, unforgivness, confusion, and buried emotions.
There were many sides to these characters that I related to in surreal ways that it was scary. In my life, there have been many girls/ladies that have hurt me and I too learned to be defensive and build walls up around myself only to later realize that I had hurt myself by More...

I love Kristin Hannah books! They are always good emotional and realistic reads. BETWEEN SISTERS was not my favorite of her books, but it was good and kept me reading. What else can you hope for?
This one really did explain the unbreakable bond between sisters, no matter how broken that bond may seem. The tenaciousness of Meg's determination to reconnect and ultimately save Claire's life was wonderful.
If you like Hannah's books too and have missed this one, pick it up. More...

This book is about two sisters who were really close when they were young and then grew apart as they got older. The book details their journey to becoming not only sisters again but friends. A very emotional book that I felt really explored the realtionships between families and also the breaking point of the human spirit and the journey to healing that spirit and becoming a whole person again. I really liked this book but beware.....it is a tear jerker.....that ultimately has a rewarding endin

This was an amazing book. It would have gotten a 5 from me if there wasn't soo much language and sexual content that didn't need to be there. I understand that some people aren't lucky enough to have a wholesome upbringing but the point could be made with out so much trash. Kristin Hannah is a great writer. She really can bring out the emotions that goes along with being sisters. The ones we love we hurt the worst and can hurt us the worst too. Great book if you can wade through the muck.

Great book overall! There were a couple of parts that were hoakey but I was so emotionally involved that I was laughing and crying along with the characters!!!
Would be a great book discussion book concerning interpersonal relationships, communicating even when it is hard, making decisions that are "best" for others, hope, and forgiving.
Good read and will hopefully find more Kristin Hannah books as good as this one! More...

Between Sisters is very similar to the last Kristin Hannah novel I read Firefly Lane. The two main characters are sisters this time instead of best friends. Most of the book focuses on the relationship issues between the two strong women and then a medical crisis is thrown in near the end of the story. My favorite character in this novel is Meghann. Although she seems abrasive and unfeeling on the surface, she has a good heart. I enjoyed the Pacific northwest setting. I would love to visit

It might have been me, but I think this book was a little slow in the beginning. I had a hard time keeping the characters straight and why there were certain characters in this book. However, I got into it about page 100 and found it hard to put it down. I loved this book. I will put a disclaimer in here that it does have a few very heated love scenes in this book. I really loved the story line. It really made me think about relationships. I would highly recommend this book.

Great! I didn't get into the book quickly, but that was more due to my time issues than the plot. The book was great. I was, once again, moved to tears towards the end. Nothing unusual with this author. She does a great job of capturing emotions and thoughts of characters in a realistic way.
I recommend the book. The dynamics between sisters was great. It doesn't speak to your everyday sisters, but it does cover the bond that sisters share.
I recommend all of K. Ha More...

Is it weird that I love the way Kristin Hannah stirs up my emotions? I was starting to worry for a bit that 'Between Sisters' was only going to get me chocked up and a full blown sob fest wasn't in the cards. But of course by the end I was surrounded by soaked kleenex and announcing to my husband "Don't look at me, I'm crying, again!"

My second "sister" book by Kristin Hannah and this one was so different. It was about overcoming the slights that happen between siblings as they grow - it was about how to connect with your sibling when all you share is some DNA and very few shared memories. These sisters were as different as night and day, so it was interesting to watch them resolve their conflict.
The ending might have been a little sappy, but sometimes a little sap is a good thing.

Great book. Meghann and Claire grew up as sisters, that were shoveled from here to there. Where ever their Mom's current job was, so even at times she would abandon them and Meghann would have to take care of Claire. As adults Meghann and Claire relationship has become strained. Not a sisterly relationship, but a few phone calls a year really. Events in Claire life bring them together slowly and they do see that they really need earch other.

I'm on a trek to read all Kristin Hannah books. She is fitting my kind of book right now. Definetly chic lit as one minute your smiling and then the next minute you are crying.
Story is about 2 sisters growing up in the hard life with a mom that didn't really know how to be a mom. The older sister has to make decisions that will emotionally effect the younger one. Fast forword about 20 years and this is where this story starts.
Looking forward to reading another of her books!
