I bought this one on a whim, and it turned out to be a pretty good summer read. The main character has to reconcile her love for her staunchly Catholic family with the love of her life who is Irish, agnostic, and a stem-cell reasearch doctor. I enjoyed it mainly because I identified with the Italian family aspects. Catholics would especially enjoy it, in fact, I started to wonder if Dorthea Benton Frank was the Anita Stansfield of Catholicism. I guess that statement alone will make all my...more

someone who has nothing else to read
If you are struggling with your spirituality, by all means read this book, otherwise leave it alone. I picked this book up because there was a blurb on the cover by Pat Conroy and I truly appreciate HIS work. Turns out this author is friends with Pat's wife. Anyway...back to the book. Ms. Frank writes about Charleston, SC and the people there. I enjoy her stories so much. I have been to Charleston a few times and find it a fascinating place. She is a great writer for light, entertaining, escape type stories. Women are always her main characters and they always end up learning so much about themselves by the conclusion of her tales. One of mom's pool peeps had this book in a stack of things for me to read. I'll be honest, when I started it I groaned inwardly thinking, "oy! this isn't going to be good..." Well, by the time the main character got back from Sardinia I was hooked. Humor and sarcasm combined with serious situations and faith... a definte read. A vivid story of an Italian-Catholic familiy, the daughter who has given up on faith and her "baby-killing" lapsed Irish-Catholic live-in boyfriend. This story is about faith, losing it, struggling with it and finding it again. It was well done rather than trite and even the miracles were believable. The one thing I wish had been handled in more detail was the mother's secret. It was alluded to through out the story, but abruptly revealed at the end.
Over all, a good read.

I love her books and rush to get them when they arrive.
I really liked it.It was different but so enjoyable.She has a lot of conflict about the Catholic church and stem cell research. The thing I love about her books is that you live them, not just read them. I could picture Michael, Grace and the Italian family. I could smell the food in the kitchen and loved the dialogue of the family. I think her books are a fun trip to another place. And I love that in a book.

Dorothea Benton Frank is a WONDERFUL Southern writer...She grew up in South Carolina's lowcountry and now lives in NY, so all of her books are set in SC & (usually) in NY. Her older books are the best, but all of her books are worth reading. In each book, I laugh, I cry, I get so involved that I don't want the story to end. All Southerners (and Yankee transplants) will love her books!

Overall, I really liked this book. The author blabbed on and on unnecessarily at points but that did not affect my enjoyment of the story. I found myself laughing at the all too familiar relationship that Grace has with her boisterous family. Love, death, spirituality and miracles are all touched upon.

Thanks Kelly for recommending this author. I really enjoyed Full of Grace, definitely a good summer read. Dorothea Benton Frank is kind of like the female Nicholas Sparks. I'm moving onto Isle of Palms - the bookstore I went to was out of Sullivan's Island, but that's be next up.

I'm with Carly, my least favorite of Dorothea's books... the lowcountry setting is not evident enough to make me love it!!

I keep reading Frank's books, as she writes about the particular South in which I'm interested, and this is my favorite, as she seems to have reduced the exclamation point quotient quite a bit from previous books.

If you love the South, Italian food, stories about family dynamics all with a touch of faith, you'll like this book as well as I did! I've read a number of books by this author and have enjoyed them all.

I tend to collect authors, I find a book I like and then have to read everything they wrote. I have never been disappointed in any of this author's books. Perfect for a Sunday afternoon read.

A wonderful book .. I can't say much without giving away the whole story, but it is nothing like you imagine it to be when you start out reading. A great way to spend a weekend!

This was ok - I liked it better throught the first 3/4 of the book - the end seemed very predictable. It wan't what i expected though so it held my interest thought most of it.

A young woman runs away to South Carolina to escape life, only to make a new one for herself. A typical Dorothea Benton Frank lowcountry novel. What's not to love?

Grace and her scientist boyfriend come to believe that miracles can happen and that God is real. Interestingly written by one of my favorite secular authors.
