The first time I read this, just over a year ago, I had the summer 'flu so I think I missed more than a few key elements. I remember I thought it was confusing and didn't see how the case came together because nothing seemed to add up. A fever and cold medicine will make even the best story seemingly incomprehensible. I am glad that I revisited the novel. The material is still abhorrent, but this is Slaughter and that is both expected and the point. I think what makes Kisscut so different from n...more
Well what can I say about this book. I really enjoyed it but it made me sick to my stomach. Now let me explain, the subject matter of this book was painful and at time sickening to read. Most of this dealt with violence towards children and I couldn't really handle it much before, and now that I am a father it is even harder to read and know that people like this really do exist. I have also thought that I had read and seen some of the most grisly crime scenes ever, but the one at the beginning...more

Good so far but I'm not sure I will be able to read all the series. The story lines are great but someone "crosses their arms" every second page!!! Even when wearing roller skates(the old fashioned four wheels in four corners type) and leaning against a wall! Stood in this pose and then suddenly... crosses her arms. She even does it when we have had the discription of her sitting in the passenger seat of a car and being very tired and then staring straight ahead and crossing her arms. WHAT is it...more
Another wonderful offering from Karin Slaughter. Jeffrey and Sara are back in their roles as the caped crusaders of Grant County. The book opens with Jeffrey having to do the unthinkable - shoot a teenager before she shoots him.
The stage is then set for them to work out why the teenager was so determined to get their attention by getting herself killed. I will warn you now that this book does delve some into child sex and pornography, though thankfully not as gruesome and detailed as it could ha...more

Kisscut is definitely one of the most if not the first most graphic of the grant county series of books by author Karin Slaughter. To warn this book contains some very graphic and at times almost disturbing material.
However that very fact is what keeps you on your toes and your mind sharp while turning page after page. It starts off with Sarah Linton and Jeffery Tolliver on a date at the town's skating rink when something unspeakable happens that has Jeffery making a very tough and unthinkable d...more

Kisscut is Karin Slaughter's second book to feature Det. Lena Adams, Chief Jeffrey Toliver, Dr. Sara Linton, and the entire cast of characters from Grant County Georgia. If you've read much of Slaughter's books, these characters will be comfortable and famaliar to you, and if you're just checking Slaughter out, you'll get a great introduction to what Slaughter's books are all about. The characters are as much a part of the story as the actual plot. They each have their own issues and their own d...more
The second Grant County thriller, featuring pediatrician Sara Linton and her ex-husband, Police Chief Jeffrey Toliver. I read the first book a few years ago and only gave it 2 stars; but I felt I might have been extra harsh because one of the characters targeted by the serial killer in that book shares my first name and that freaked me out a bit. So I decided to give Slaughter another chance.

What is the mind that comes up with all this.... the child abuse, the child thefts, etc.... all nasty stuff again. As I read these I continue to hope and pray that the stuff of htis book is not as common as I think it may be. And, of course all this is happening in one town that doesn't seem all that big.

Karin Slaughter delivers another page turner with the second installment in the Grant County series. I thought the crimes in the first book couldn't be topped but I was wrong. If anything, I think the crimes in this book are even more disturbing and it scares me a little to think of what the author may come up with for the next book. As with the first book, the story is presented in third person from the POV of three of Grant County's residents: Sara, the local pediatrician and part-time coroner...more
Plot summary: Outside a roller rink one night, a young girl pulls a gun on a teenage boy. When Grant County police chief Jeffrey Tolliver is forced to kill her before she shoots the boy, it becomes apparent that Grant County has a seedy underbelly, filled with crimes that no one could have imagined. It's up to Jeffrey, his ex-wife Sara Linton, and Detective Lena Adams must work to find the perpetraitors and solve the case before more children are hurt.

This is the 2nd book by this author that I have read and I enjoyed it just as much as the first, Blindsighted. Very fast paced, with lost of twists and surprises. It's a really good thriller and can't wait to read the third one.

"The NEW Year of Mystery" continues!... This is the third book I've read from Karin Slaughter, and I really am becoming a fan... The crimes in her books are violent, graphic, and shocking, and this one is no exception - and to be honest I wouldn't mind less of that... But once you get past that, you see the true talent of her writing, which is her characters. This is the second installment in the "Grant County" series, a direct sequel to Blindsighted. The depth of development of the three main c...more

What's with all the throat clearing?
This is the second in the Grant County series. After having read the first, Blindsighted, I dove right into the second. The plot is good. It does revolve around some very sensitive topics, incest, child pornography, rape, kidnapping, etc., but the story is well written and compelling. The continuing side stories involving the three main characters is also compelling.

Not for the squeamish...
If you have read the author's first book (“Blindsighted”) and were disturbed by the graphic crimes, I am going to warn you that this book is a lot worse. Since the plot revolves around child abuse, child pornography, and incest, I found the book (at times) uncomfortable the same way I do when I watch a L&O: SVU episode on the same subject matter.

Karin Slaughter’s books are brilliant and so well written. I enjoy her extremely complex recurrent lead characters more and more (Jeffrey, Sara and Lena), even though it is clear I think that the Grant County police (GA) have to deal with the aftermath of too much violence and vile acts by the most horrible people! It is really too much – TOO MUCH - and I totally agree with a reviewer that had stated that if she lived in Grant County, she’d run – indeed one better run, because how can you live i...more
Oh, Lifetime novels, how you seduce me!
That being said, Karin Slaughter is a cut above the rest. Her characters are well rounded, though scarred. Angst features as its own character in all of her novels that I've read. The body count is high for a small town, as well. Despite this, one can't help rooting for the characters. I want Jeffrey to heal his grief. I want Sara to let Jeffrey in. I want Lena to let Hank in. The 3 dimensional characters help get the reader past the cliche Lifetime plot m...more

I just finished Kisscut, my 2nd Karin Slaughter. I love a good series, & this Grant County series is a good one. Karin Slaughter is a great author for the slightly morbid (yes, like me!). Shock-value plays a big part of her books. A friend mentioned to me that she enjoyed this second book more than the first, Blindsighted, because it wasn't as graphic, but that really isn't true! I can hardly wait to discuss this with her! Not much bothers me, & I wasn't disturbed by either book, but I d...more
This book is not for the faint of heart. It's quite graphic but the author does a very good job of storytelling, I couldn't put it down. This is book 2 in the series.
Sara is at a skating rink skating around waiting for her ex, Jeffrey the police chief to come and see her. Sara is the pediatrician of a small town in Georgia. She sees some of her patients while waiting. She sees Jenny, a 13 year old girl that she sees as a patient go into the restroom with two other girls just as Jeffrey shows up....more

This book was highly anticipated by me and turned out to be a disappointment. This book to me lacked the vital elements of the previous writings by Slaughter. Twisted plot, razor prose, and a few good "Can't put me down" scenes all seemed to be lacking from this book.
I had the perpetrator pegged from almost the beginning and the ending is about the only twist in plot. Lena is still struggling to get over her rape from the last book, Jeffrey and Sara are trying to figure out where, if anywhere,...more

This is the second book in Slaughter's Grant County Series. While I enjoy Slaughter's writing, this book fell short.
The scandalous subject matter didn't bother me, but the poor character development certainly did. The protagonists spend far too much time beating themselves up over what they should have seen and done rather than solving the mystery and catching the the guilty parties. The real problem here is too many psyches at play. Had Slaughter narrowed her psychological focus to the two pri...more

Kisscut is a graphic and gruesome book, opening with a literal bang and a dead, mutilated baby in a skating rink bathroom. As we read we are thrust into a world that has the ability to sour stomachs and leaving you shuddering, and the ending will do nothing to help you overcome these feelings, you will close this book and be sickened that people are actually capable of such evil. That being said, these criminals are a bit too smart for the police in this book (one example being the tail near the...more
I was disappointed in this book. I'm not sure why I listened to as much as I did & I didn't quite finish it. I liked Slaughter's first book as I liked the protagonist, Sara Linton , who a pediatrician & medical examiner for a small town. I also liked the relationship between her & her ex-husband, police chief Jeffrey Tolliver as they are reconciling.
But this story was so terrible. As the review says: "a horrific but individual catastrophe proves to have wider implications." The auto...more

I took two Karin Slaughter books on a vacation where I needed lots to read. Both books were good, solid page-turning reads; this one I liked a bit more than the other.
Slaughter's writing is always crisp, moving the plot and characters forward. The subject matter--child abuse in many, all heartbreaking and nauseating, forms-- keeps you wondering who lives like this, and why. The plot kept throwing up roadblocks and twists. And the author gives Jeffrey Tolliver, the male protagonist, a wonderful...more

Wowie - this was a good one. #2 in yet another series, but I already read one of Slaughter's books in the middle - "A Faint Cold Fear". This one involved Sara Linton and her ex - Jeffrey Toliver, chief of police. He's called to a scene where a young teen girl is pointing a gun at a young teen boy and Jeffrey eventually has to shoot her. This story unravels badly as the girl and boy are both victims of his mother sexually abusing them. Another woman is involved and it turns out these women have k...more
Don't get me wrong, I love a meandering tale as much as the next person. I'm more than willing to sit back and let a story lap over me like a wave on a Cape Cod beach. I also like a good undertow, a good riptide that jerks your body when you've become far too complacent with the slow glide of warm water. This book was all warm water, no undertow. I expected at any moment to get snatched into a world that would defy my imagination, but it just didn't happen. Much is made of primitive cultures and...more

I had Kisscut in my bag ready to start the moment I had finished Blindsighted - I was eagerly anticipating starting another Karin Slaughter book.....
I therefore found the recaps boring and unnecessary and I didn't understand why so much was written about Lena - may be this will be something that will bite us on the bum in a later book!
It seemed to take an age to get going. I will say I thought the author dealt with the subject matter sensitively and as in other books painted a very good picture...more
