Although the King James authorised version is the most poetic it is something of a plod at times, and I found this one with its explanatory notes and easy-to-read text a lot more elucidating in terms of what's going on. I have to admit that what drew me to it in the shop two years ago was the recommendations by Melvyn Bragg and David Suchet, who I admire as writers and broadcasters. Suchet, a leading Shakesperean actor, tells how a few years ago he was lying in his bath in a hotel in America, wh...more
Read this from cover to cover. I loved the way the beginning of each book explains the author, when he wrote it, and why he wrote it. Little interesting tidbits of info are dispersed throughout leaving me constantly saying, "Wow, I never knew that ..." I haven't found a Bible yet that I love as much as this one.
This isn't quite the version that I'm reading, but it's as close as I could find to it.
The book that convinced me that God is awful.
This little known, anonymously-written literature text has amazing stories and thought-provoking parables that have transcended time and space. Growing up, I read this book over and over again (some stories more than others) and can attest to the power of it. Especially when defending one's self. For example, I definitely recommend this book for anyone who finds themselves constantly defending their political views against self-identified "experts" on this grand nuance of a text.
I've read this before, numerous times- sometimes all the way through, sometimes a little at a time. I even took classes each on the New and Old Testaments. If you really need a glowing recommendation you're probably some sort of heathan.
It does have everything: action, romance, betrayal, deciet, mind-numbing boredom, loyalty, confusion, redundancies, dated anachronisms and prophecy. It's worth a go.

I've never read the Bible in it's entirety, front to back....which is embarressing to admit as I've been a Christian for 14 years AND went to Bible college! I've started my journey through the Bible last month and am finding that I have so many questions I never thought about asking before. I'm loving it!
this Bible has been through it all. Through a divorce, through the military, through the dark times, and now. I am surprised it has held up this long considering it is a paperback. I love it. Its translatation is awesome, and it has a great reading program in it. I LOVE It.
Its the bible, whats more to say? Its the GREATEST BOOK ever written and everyone should read it. This is the Student NIV Bible and it is a great study tool for anyone that wants to grow with their knowledge of the bible. THUMBS UP!
Although I've read portions of the Bible in the past I am now reading it completely. Whether you look at it as a historical document, or God's word it's definitely a good read!
Continuously reading. Right now I'm reading through PSALMS. My goal is to read the entire bible, cover to cover. Not sure how long it will take me, but it's my goal.
This was a part of a school required bible study course for my bachelor's degree. A very good version with great devotionals and self-taught lessons and guides.
So I've read most of the Bible, but I don't think I have read it in its entirity. It's a difficult read and a constant work in progress;)
I've been on the three-year read-ever-word track for seven years now. I am renewing my commitment to finish this study bible!
I followed the reading plan on www.oneyearbible.net ~ so proud that I finally read the bible cover to cover! :-)
Received Nov. 18, 2001 as a "graduation" present from the little kid sunday school to the senior high youth group.
Mike gave me this back while we were dating. I've read it cover to cover several times, it never gets old. :)
The translation makes for a faster read, and speaks clearer. Great resource for comparing te other translations.
I've been working through the "read the entire Bible" plan for years, and I'm recently back on it.
God is good; the meaning of life.
I believe it is the Truth!
This is still my favorite version. My Grandmother got me this when I was 18 and to this day it is my favorite. It has translations that are easy to relate to and was a big help in my journey to explore my anger and childhood in order to cope and grow. Even at almost thirty, it is the best Bible I have found.
