I have a long history of hating being preached at by my books, and this one started out as that sort - contrived/simplistic plot, moralistic, preachy. I pressed on though and ended up enjoying it. It's sort of a fictionalized mix of American history and the Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, and the middle section was good enough that I believe I'll read it out loud to my kids once the school year starts.
