I had been interested in reading Good in Bed for a few years now. I used to work at Borders Books & Music and of course, in such a setting, I came upon several hundreds of books that I had made mental notes of to read, forgot about them, life went on and on and on; but Good in Bed has always remained on my mental ‘must read’ book list. With a title like Good in Bed, I hardly cared about what the story was about, the book cover and name alone eluded to chick lit, which is super fabulous t...more

Sometimes a person needs a light read. A fun read. A pick it up and put it down (finished in a day) read. This book is all of these things, but it also carries an important message in an accessible format. We meet many people in our lives and love many be eternal or fleeting. Regardless of the time that love is shared, or held on to, the depth, the intensity, the interwoven sense of purpose can vary. We may not always love the person that we love now. We may not always remain with the per...more

This is the third book I have read by Jennifer Weiner. I first read Goodnight Nobody, which I really enjoyed, and then Little Earthquakes, which was also really good. This was good too, but in a different way...I wouldn't say I enjoyed it as much as those, but it was still a great story and I am happy to have read it.

While I adored Cannie in so many ways (her wonderful sense of humor, loyalty to her family and friends, and her ambition) I also found myself perturbed by her, a...more

So I don't forget it, I have to share a super funny line:

"He'd had a few turn-downs in high school, when he'd had really bad skin, and before he'd discovered that pot and a ponytail could reliably attracted a certain kind of girl."

I'm kinda struggling with this one. I had high hopes, but it's not quite what I expected from the blurb on the back. I'm getting distracted by her LENGTHY flashbacks of her life, which are meant to give background and context to the current issue, b...more

I am rating this as an OK, based only on the fact that the plot was intricate and well thought out. The book itself was very well written and easy to follow. However, it will not go on my list of favorite books. Basically it was about a plus sized 28 yr old woman, Cannie Shapiro (she was decribed as a size 16, I thought that plus didn't start until size 18, but what do I know??) She was a reporter, had friends, an apartment, a dog, etc. She had recently asked her boyfriend of 3 years for a break...more

This is the only Jennifer Weiner book that I have read and I have to say that for chick lit, this was a good book. I tend to read the mysteries/thrillers, but every now and then you need a break. I do not remember if it was a gift from Nicole or something I picked up on my own, but I do remember that it was a good read.

As a plus sized woman myself (those of you who don't know me are now saying "of course"), I found a lot of truth and humor in this book and was hooked from the fi...more

Out of all the Jennifer Weiner books I've read so far, this is the one I enjoyed the most. Its still not my favorite in chick lit but it's good.

This story is about Cannie, a spunky, overweight girl who aspires to write a screen play. She's got great friends and her dog Nifkin. In the beginning of the book, she has just broken up with her longtime boyfriend Bruce because he's unmotivated and she feels she does not truely love him. But then she reads an article Bruce wrote about loving a lar...more

Well by reading some of the reviews below, I guess I am the only one that really did NOT like this book. I thought it was quite IRONIC That Violet loved the screenplay because the lead charachter didn't need to be rescued... unlike Cannie.
She seems so winey and down on not only herself but everyone else. To me this was NOt an uplifting book, It was actually rather depressing and I only finished it because it was the book selected for my book club so i felt obligated to finish it. It wa...more

Cannie was a big girl with a big pride. She left her man for what she thought were better things just to find out that she let go of what she truly wanted ( Bruce )! He wrote an article that hurt her about thier love life. She didn't find it very amusing and was pretty mad. Going through the motions of trying to figure out how she felt she lost him. The ending of the story is a happy one. It makes you smile to read about the friends she makes and the things that happen to her. She comes to terms...more

Blah. What is up with these 20-something books? The I-don't-like-my-job, I-can't-find-a-mate, I'm-almost-30 angst books? They are all written in the EXACT same voice, and even hit the same highlights (in both this book and Girls are Weird, a father's funeral results in a hook up with an ex--I guess I really dodged a bullet there).

In the interview after the book, the author seems very proud of herself that she wrote an anti-fairy tale, meaning the protagonist does not end the book skinny (...more

One complaint I have - the cover on my book clearly shows a NOT FAT girl with a piece of cake next to her (not the same edition as this one). GRRRRR.

Though this book is about a size 16 woman, I think the feelings of being an ugly duckling are universal. Cannie is likeable and fun, and makes observations that I think we've all made at one time or another.

It is pretty clear that the book is the author's fantasy, but that isn't a terrible thing for a first book. I'm not sure how I feel abou...more

This is quite possibly one of my five favorite novels, ever. I think this was the story Weiner was born to tell; everything of hers I've read after it, including In Her Shoes which would make it to cinemas where Good in Bed still hasn't, was kind of mediocre in comparison. As I understand it Weiner has a sequel to Good in Bed coming out in April, which I await eagerly, although with some trepidation.

Good in Bed tells the story of Cannie, a larger woman whose ex-...more

i always say: read every book, because behind all these sentences you will find truth. and if not it was worth reading it because there always is always a strangely true and good sentence in it.

I've found this book by coincidence on amazon.de.
Normally i read german book, but i like to enlarge my english skills. But this is not the point here.

the main character in is novel is Candance Shapiro. She's very similar to Bridget Jones, also funny, strange, confused and in the end of her thirt...more

Weiner tells the story about a confident woman, who works as a journalist for a paper in Philadelphia, who breaks up with her author boyfriend only to find an article written by him in a magazine about "Loving a Larger Woman".

The article begins, "I remember the day I found out my girlfriend weighed more than I did."

Aaack!

Perhaps it is all the large girl humor I find so appealing. She really nails so much of it. And Cammie, her protagonist, is a great character. Lo...more
