Truly, I'd give this 2.5 stars. First, I'll enumerate a few positives. I do not ever expect these Austen reproductions to be nearly as satisfying as its original source. This was, however, a great deal better, and more true-to-character than Mr. Darcy Takes A Wife, in which reading I made a grave mistake! Newark attempts to imitate Austen's writing style and, by and large, is more successful than many modern endeavors. The novel is short and a quick, indulgent read.

A charming little book. The subtitle is, "A gentle joke, Jane Austen style" and it is very much a delightful read.
The Darcy's second son, Henry, returns home from college and mentions that he is in love with Eliza Collins, the youngest daughter of Charlotte and Mr. Collins. Upon hearing this and discussing the issue, Elizabeth and Jane decide to plan a ball at Pemberley. The pretense of the ball is to celebrate their daughter Juliet's 18th birthday and Henry's entrance into soc...more

This book is a glimpse into the love lives of the next generation of the characters from Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. What can I say, next generation books, TV shows, etc. etc. never come close to the original. It's hard to imagine a middle aged Elizabeth Bennett- it's almost sad. I would rather haver her immortalized just as she is at the end of Pride and Prejudice.
That being said, the book is only 156 pages, so it's worth taking a look if you love Jane Austen-y stuff. Plus, the autho...more

I think this book is charming, witting and super cute! It's a little spin off of Jane Austen's books and is about the next generation. It's nothing scholarly, but just a really quaint, fun read. Elizabeth and Darcy's kids are now of the marrying age and their heart-throbs are the kids of couples in Austen's other books. Before you read it though, I recommend you familiarize/remind yourself of the main characters in Austen's classics. I hope you read it, it's a cute one!

There are spoilers: Well, I tried this in a momentary craving for more Austen and was disappointed. It was kind of funny--as it says in the title, "A gentle joke", but as the author brought in characters from EVERY SINGLE Jane Austen novel it got a bit trite and overdone. I guess if you are desperate to continue the saga, try this book. But if you are looking for Austen quality writing--you'll be disappointed.

Not that great. It's a fast read, but it's still a waste of time. It should be a book about the Collins' children not the Darcys. Although the Darcys and their children are involved, the focus isn't really on them. And their daughter is entirely too reminiscent of Lydia. As if that would ever happen! It was also difficult to keep track of all of the Jane Austen characters (or their children).

I enjoyed parts of this book, but not enough to say I truly liked it. I was disappointed in the character of Elizabeth's daughter. Also, the book was more about other characters than it was about the Darcy children. I did like the style of writing. I thought it was reminiscent of Austen.
The Darcy's decide to hold a ball for their nearly adult children.

This was a good, quick, fun summer read. By all means not even close to Jane Austen but a fun "joke" like the title says. It was fun to take a look at the next generations. Not only the Darcy's and the Bingley's but the Collines, Brandons, Knightley's, Churchill's etc, etc.
It was a fun read, but would not read it again.

I'm a sucker for anything Jane Austen related and am usually disappointed. This one was no different. It was very light weight and the point seemed to be how many characters from Jane Austen novels could be crammed into one book. Pass this one up unless you're really desparate for a fix.

I didn't find this particularly witty or entertaining, which should explain why it took me so long to read such a short novel. The characters were flat and the plot was obvious. I'm sorry I took the time to read it, honestly.

It's OK. I have to stop thinking that just because the book has characters from Pride and Prejudice, that it will be as good as Pride and Prejudice.

Cute, with a quote from P&P heading up each chapter, and includes families present from other books of the Austen canon. It's a nice, short, bathtub read.

I read this book when it was out under a different title-"Consequences: or whatever became of Charlotte Lucas." I look forward to reading it again.

Hearty and silly -- takes literal quotes from the original Pride & Prejudice. Not brilliant at all, but good fun.

Too short but I really enjoyed it. There was a very pleasant surprise that I won't write about to avoid spoilers.

It wasn't very memorable - I didn't finish it before I had to return it to the library.
