Yuck.
I confess the characters were memorable. I liked the ones she took time to develop (Marrell, Paul, Jackson, Mackenzie, Delancy).
But the book started SO SLOW and the writing was horrible. I cannot believe I finished all 600 something pages. I probably wouldn't have if the book hadn't been given to me and I felt obligated to 'report back.' I can safely go for several years without the descriptor, "special" as it was so overused. I was mentally wretching within two pages. Another annoying trai...more

I became interested in reading Christian fiction novels at an early age. I was a brand-new, born-again believer, and I was searching for a way to nurture and cultivate my personal relationship with Jesus Christ. I loved to spend my leisure time reading, and I knew that the books that I read should glorify God and reflect the new lifestyle that I had longed for and finally accepted. So, my mama and my grandmother suggested that I visit the church library, check out some Christian fiction novels,...more
Lori Wick is one of my favorite authors. I have just about read every single thing she has written, so it was natural for me to get this book and read it. I did not expect how amazing it would be. I learned so much and experienced so much from this characters that I felt I had said goodbye to a friend when it ended. This book made me laugh, cry, get angry, cry, laugh, ponder, cry and laugh and ponder again.

This is a book that was recommended to me by someone who said reading this book brought her to Christ. It was a very good book and one of Lori's few novels. She has many series. The reason I only gave it 3 stars is because I thought the first part (maybe the first quarter) was a little predictable. It got better, though, and I really liked it after that. At times, the characters were a little hard to believe for me, but overall I'd recommend it. It was really a welcome change from the last book...more
Very engrossing story about a family and how the Spirit takes hold of each one of them and how they all eventually come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. 708 pgs. long but never got boring. I read some other reviews, and it is true what that reader said: every body in this book has flawless skin, great jobs, no financial worries...I didn't even realize that before. So, in that their problems were not about their looks or financial state, there was sickness and death and other nasty thing...more
I got this book on a whim at the library after reading the synopsis and once I began it took me about a week to finish. It started off very slowly and the writing is very simple (which isnt necessarily a bad thing I suppose). However, Wick's strength in my opinion lies in the great messages on morality and faith, as well as the wonderful characters!I have to admit that I felt amazing compassion for them as they endured their various trials. Delancey and Mackenzie, the two main characters, are ver...more
Though the size of the book can be daunting, the content is well worth the effort. I read this book for the first time as a high schooler and it is so memorable and life-applying that I have read it multiple times since. The characters are gripping and easy to relate to, the plot is every-day life circumstances, and the religiosity is well-placed and encouraging without pounded it into the reader's head. I highly recommend the book and other works by this author. About the book: Sisters Mackenzi...more
Okay, this story starts out when Delancey and Mickenzie are young girls around eight to ten. Their father Paul Bishop is in the army and their mother takes care of them. THey move around a lot, because of Paul's job. Until, they finally settled in San Francisco. When they arrived, their mother met an old friend named Shay and they spent a lot of time together. THen, Shay became religious and their mom and dad don't think much of her anymore. THeir dad gets shipped off to Germany, so their mom ha...more
this book is for females and it was awesome the way Lori intwined the meaning of having Christ in your life. It was about two females on the crossroads of life with trying to deal with both of their parents deaths when Mackenzie and Delancy were both very young. It is a great book for females to find out how you would deal with reallife crossroads that could turn your life insideout.
I read this book many years ago, but I still remember how much I loved it. The story and characters stay with you for a long time. Others may complain about the length, but I rather enjoy staying with the characters for a good couple days or weeks. I'm definitely going to pick up this book again. If you like Lori Wick, another novel by her is The Princess, which I also highly recommend.
Holy cow, this book was long! It's the longest book I've ever read, besides my Bible or some textbooks. I am amazed how the story flowed and I didn't get bored with the characters. It was hard to read about people dying of cancer, but the story of redemption and moving on without forgetting people they've lost was really good.
This book is on my all-time favorites list. I would dare to call it an epic, because you follow the lives of the characters with such closeness and detail over many years and life events. I like how the story shifts between characters, how their lives are intertwined and ultimately everything works together for the sister's salvation.
wow! what a long book but it was soooo good, I couldn't put it down! read all day yesterday, all night and finished it this morning!
Lori Wick is a really good author! I have never read any of her books but I love her writing style and how she weaves scripture throughout.
Story started with parents and ended with sisters! I highly recommend this book!

I loved this book!! I think I related most to Mckenzie. But I loved watching this family come to Christ. In the begining I could relate to Marrell as her girls did not share her faith. I laughed and cried with these girls on their journey through life. I loved the closeness between McKenzie and Delancy. I felt bad for Jack when Marrell and died and the girls would not have anything to do with him; but I loved that they renewed their relationship with him.
