I’ve been a fan of Alexandra Hawkins for a few years now, discovering her Carlyle family series when she was writing under the name of Barbara Pierce. I never did get to her Bedegrayne books before she began her Lords of Vice series, and those have kept me busy for a while. Now that St. Martin’s has reissued the Bedegraynes in e-format, I’m not missing the opportunity to read about the family who started it all for this very talented author.

I could tell this was an early book as the writing was not as well done as current books and there were instances of rambling prose that did not help the story. Rayne was an interesting character, having been buried alive and rescued by grave robbers when only 15. He had later trained as a surgeon and did not use his title. I just have problems believing anything about the heroine, Devona. She was only 19, and very immature and did not seem Rayne's type of woman. The story was filled with action...more

Fifteen years ago, a strange twist of fate made Rayne Wyman both the Viscount Tipton and a Notorious outcast. He vows revenge and has not tempted to reenter the polite world. Then a young lovely Devona Bedegrayne summons the temerity to knock on his door and demand his help.
A page turner. Started reading and couldn't stop. Will read more of her books for sure.

Having a rich English ancestry that can be traced back to the 1500s, BARBARA PIERCE credits her grandmother and the romantic family tales she was told as a child for inspiring her early fascination with English history.

Striving to balance her love of history with the need to tell a compelling story, she debuted in 2000 with A Desperate Game. Since then, she has created two successful family series...more
