Review:
Born out of an idea from Chicago Cubs owner P.K. Wrigley, the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League started play in 1943 and lasted for 11 seasons, giving women the opportunity to play professional baseball. There was a movie made in 1992 about the league, “A League of Their Own” and it revitalized interest in the only all-female professional baseball league.

The author's purpose of writing this wonderful nonfiction book was to tell of the All-Amercian Girl's baseball league during World War II. She is trying to inform people of how when all the men were at war the women took over everything from the factory jobs to America's favorite pastime, baseball. Helmer very clearly informs us of all the facts from how the women were trained to how much the fans loved it.
