Okay, so it took me a while to get on the Black Dagger Brotherhood bandwagon. Some of y'all know that I went over 4 years without picking up a book, so when I started reading again in August, I was behind (and still am) with series books.
In all honesty, I put reading this book off because I thought I would expect too much from it. All of the hype about it leads you to believe that it is unfailingly awesome...well it was.

Wow, this was a great book! I cannot believe that it took me so long to get around to reading it. I'll definitely be reading the rest of the series. I am positive that I'll read this book again. I loved Beth and Wrath.

I started to read my first ever J.R. Ward book and so far I like it.
I am not doing a review on this book since there are already plenty of them. All I can say is that I loved it. I am hooked.

Until now, I had only read a handful of paranormal romances, all of which involved time travel, and had never read a vampire romance at all. I really never thought I would be interested, but numerous enthusiastic recommendations by fellow romance readers finally convinced me to try J. R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood. I was pleasantly surprised to find the first book in the series, Dark Lover, to be a generally enjoyable read. Admittedly, the at...more

I was disappointed by this book. From the description, it sounded more like dark fantasy, but in practice, it's more like a romance novel of the cheesiest variety, only replace the generic pirate/naughty lord/auto mechanic human hunk with a vampire hunk. The dialogue was overwrought, and the behavior of the man/men in question was extremely stereotypical when it wasn't extremely implausible (even given that we are theoretically talking about men of a different and non-existent-in-reality spec...more

This one is not going so well. I am getting sick of the these great fighters that remind me of want to be thugs with their slang and cars and rap music. But to redeem them she tosses in leather? Seriously if I hear bro, what's up and WTF one more time I'm through. Not to mention a blind hero who can smell how the heroine looks????? Anywho I give it 25 more pages. Oh did anyone else skip the parts of Mr. X I just can't stand them... No screw it I'm done.

If you can not only get past, but embrace characters with names like Wrath, Tohrment, Vishous, Rhage, Phury and Zsadist, then this vampire book might be right for you. It definitely falls under the category of "guilty pleasures" for me, but I can't deny that I found it hard to put down and that I really got into the characters and story. I'll definitely be reading the sequels.

I liked it. Not a big fan of the paranormal genre and found it hard to think of the vampires in a hero's role. I may eventually seek out other books in the series but I haven't been sold on the genre by any means.

Wrath is the only purebred vampire left, king of their race, and the leader of the Black Dagger Brotherhood, an elite group of warriors dedicated to protecting their race from the lessers who would kill them. When one of the brothers asks Wrath to protect his half-human daughter, the king is quick to decline. The woman is 25, nearing the time of transition, and the last thing Wrath needs is another encumbrance. But when the warrior is killed, Wrath thinks it only fitting that he protect the daug...more

So I read this book after seeing it on many recommended lists.
I liked it, I didn't love it.
Things I liked.
1. The world which these novels inhabit. You can tell a lot of thought and energy went into the world building here.
2. The actual Brotherhood and the easy banter of the Brothers. They felt like comrades, brother-in-arms.
3. Beth. For once I liked the female character more than the male protanginist. She was smart, capable and although she fell madly in love with no reason ...more

J. R. Ward was the author of the month at HRC recently. I wasn't too tempted to try it, I had heard it was a mix of vampires and erotica which are 2 things that don't really appeal to me. However many of my friends (you know who you are :-)) with whom I share many reading tastes nagged me till I gave in and yesterday I finally decided to pick it up.
At first I was a bit confused by all those terms she mentions at the beginning.I had to go back several times to see what was what. Then there we...more

I will review this as a series. I am conflicted on this series. My wife was raving about them and I love vampire books, so she had me start reading them. I have to admit that I like them. I do find flaws with them though. The writing to me is very polar. You either have a very dark, gritty, and violent section, and then you have a hyper-saccharine sweet love scene. Each book is centered mainly around one of the brotherhood. Herein lies another problem with me. The end of each book seems...more

I'm a late comer to the sheer OMG hotness that is JR Ward. This is one SERIOUSLY sexy writer. Dark Lover is the first in the Black Dagger Brotherhood, which is a group of elite vampires who protect the rest of all the vampires from the Lessors. The Lessors are a group of soulless humans who eventually turn albino and smell like baby powder. (I mean, that is a cool characteristic! I've always thought baby powder had something subtly sinis...more

For someone who is not really into the whole vampire thing, I was really surprised how much I liked this book. Wrath and Beth were great characters as well as the other characters. I am looking forward to reading book #2

I have heard many good things about J.R. Ward and this series of books. I’m kind of going through a vampire phase as of late, so it was time I started this series. It was dead at work last night. I had about 6 hours of down time so I managed to get the whole book done in one sitting. I really enjoyed it. I couldn’t put it down.

This first book of the "Black Dagger Brotherhood" series, Holy Cow!!! Now I see why everyone raves about this series.
The Black Dagger Brotherhood is a group of vampire warriors who protect the civilian vampire population from a dangerous organization of vampire hunters. They are led by Wrath, a vampire kings who refuses to take the throne. The other Brothers are Torhment, Rhage, Phury, Zsadist and Vishous. And also Darius, he doesn't have a funky name it's not surprising that he...more

Actually that date read was close to when FIRST read, I've read it like five times so far, and will read it many more times. This is probably the best and most addictive series I have ever read, and that's saying something.
It's paranormal romance, but even people who don't get into romance novels love this series, it has widespread appeal and the characters are some of the deepest, most realistic characters I've ever seen.

Holy cow, what an awesome book! Words can't begin to describe my thanks to Kathleen! Fast-paced and unputdownable, the story just kicks into high-gear and doesn't let up! The male characters are deep, strong, and intense. The women characters just as strong and can stand up on their own and up to the males. The action is superb, the descriptions make you feel like you're right there watching. The details of the characters give you a clear picture in your head, not only what they look like, but h...more
