I enjoyed this book, which is actually the third in a series of memoirs recounting De Blasi's life in Italy. I saw this title in the book store and thought it looked interesting not knowing about the previous volumes.

all those who love Italy
This book is a third in a series by Marlena di Blasi...an American ex-pat who goes to Italy and marries a Venetian. She wrote A Thousand Days in Venice and A Thousand Days in Tuscany. Both were awesome, this third is by far the best.... she and the Venetian move to Umbria (Orvieto to be exact) and the characters she describes along with the food references will make anyone smile (and salivate)... especially those who have been there. Read it now.

This was an easy and fun read. It is a memoir of the author's life in Italy. It isn't deep or fancy. But I was looking for something to read during a long car trip and so this was perfect. I like travel stories and memoirs though, so I am a bit biased. I actually liked the pace better than Under the Tuscan Sun. (but it is a very similar type of story)

Another sweet book from Marlena De Blasi, but this time I felt let down a bit - perhaps because they didn't love their new location for most of the book, so I felt caught up in their struggles rather than swept away by their adventures. That said, the love story between her and her husband continues to move me.

Loved this book. Visited the city in Italy that the author writes about. Here's a quote that I really liked from p. 7 "Miranda is nearly seventy, and the man she taunts is past eighty. Both will tell you that they are younger now that they are older, that a life lived well moves backward."

Now I have read all three of de Blasi's books about living in Italy and I am sorry there are no more. Her writing is luscious and thoughtful; her spirit generous and wild; and her recipes enticing. Absolutely lovely all round.

This book is so well written that I could't put it down. I love Italy and it's all about an American woman who meets an Italian and they restore an ancient home in a beautiful hilltop village in Umbria.

I enjoyed this book but I would have appreciated it more if I had read the previous books first. There is definitely a presumption that you already know the characters.

BOOOOOOORING.......when I finally couldn't stop wondering WHY I care about where they live in Italy, I returned it to the library. No plot, no pretty musings...blah.
