I enjoyed watching Vickie gain in her self-confidence as she made amends for her past wrongs. Jake was a great, loyal Texas guy. I am such a sucker for reunion stories.

Lone Star Hero by Jolene Navarro was an excellent, engaging novel. Set in Clearwater, Texas, the story revolves around state trooper, Jake Torres, and the woman he's always loved, Vickie Lawson. Vickie, now a single mother of two, has fallen upon hard times after the dissolution of her marriage. Back in her hometown of Clearwater, Vickie is intent on picking up the pieces of her life and making amends for those she's hurt in the past. Misunderstandings and pride have always prevented them from b
This was a nice surprise! A little suspense, a little drama and a nice look at normal Christians dealing with life but relying on God.

This was a "can't put it down" book for me from the first page. It's the story of Vickie Lawson, who comes home to Clear Water, TX after her divorce. She is overwhelmed by the divorce with limited funds, a dad who supports her, a mom who thinks the world of Vickie's ex Tommy, two kids that don't understand, and an ex who's getting remarried. She's trying to do everything on her own. Vickie's best friend from her childhood, Jake Torres, still lives in Clear Water and still loves her. They resume ...more

I won this book on the GoodReads Giveaway contest. It is a very easy read and the story flows well. I always enjoy a story with horses thrown in for spice. A nice romance story with the drama of a conniving ex-husband and a happy ending. Always love a happy ending.

"The cast of small-town characters is believable, especially in their struggle to find life’s purpose. They show the difficulty associated with asking for, and accepting, forgiveness" (RT Book Reviews). 4 stars

I absolutely loved this book. I had trouble putting it down. The triangle of Vickie, Jake, and Tommy had me hooked. I love the message to us all to trust in God. Great story.

This book hits a personal note for a divorced Christian woman with demons to overcome. I found it very hard to read in some spots because it struck so close to home and it made me uncomfortable. I soldiered through and found the beauty. The star of the book, Vickie Lawson, has moved back to her hometown to start over with her children after a divorce. How many of us women can relate to Vickie? Millions? She reconnects with her childhood friend and finally discovers very important things about he ...more
“Lone Star Hero” by Jolene Navarro is a book that goes along with “Lone Star Holiday” though not exactly with the character I was hoping for. Though the book is most certainly connected with characters from “Lone Star Holiday” and we are taken back to Clear Water, Texas this book is a great stand alone book.

Vickie Lawson is a wonderful example how we can change our lives and that our past does not define our future. Here is a woman who is struggling to be the woman she wants to be, for she doesn
3.5 Stars. I seem to love it whenever a guy’s pining away for the girl, so I found Jake to be quite the dreamy hero. The object of his pining, Vickie, is a recovering mean girl, she’s seen the error of her ways, though she’s still stumbling a bit in that area, she had some jealous moments. I liked that she had her faults; she’s aware of them and trying to improve.

My one complaint was with Vickie’s ex-husband, Tommy. I get that he’s reached the end of his rope, he’s in a desperate situation, but
A sweet story with real issues and problems.

Two pet peeves, which are not, in any way, limited to this book. 1) A weak heroine. If you don't want someone touching you, don't let them touch you. I'm frustrated with you. 2) No communication. People please... just talk to each other.

That aside, this book was a good short read, and I would recommend to anyone looking for a feel good, faith-based romance.

Living in the Texas Hill Country, with her four children, Jolene’s life, much like the stories she writes, is filled with faith, family, football, art, laughter, dirty dishes and all of life's wonderful messiness.

Jolene knows that, as much as the world changes, people stay the same. Good and evil. Vow-keepers and heart-breakers. Jolene married a vow-keeper who showed her that long kisses and danc
