If you are clueless about Brazilian history and have no idea about the origins of the settlement of the "Nordeste" pick up a Jorge Amado for a reading experience. Romance, fights, backwoods assassins, the sertao, plantation owners fighting for land, jealousy, hatred and exposure about a time in Brazilian history.
