I loved it. I don't usually read novellas. I'm a the-thicker-the-better novel reader, but this was adorable. I felt the author did an amazing job getting so much detail into such a short space. I was a little puzzled by some of the references to the past relationship/ experiences between Alex and Rick. It made me wonder if this was book 2 or 3 or something, and that I should go back and catch them, but the title says it's book one. However, that intrigue alone made me want to read more. The ...more

I've never read a preternatural anything before, so the premise of this story came as a surprise. I expected it to be a mystery, and got a little bit of fantasy in there too.

Which I didn't mind. I liked the characters in this novel, and the writing was great. Easy to read and fun.

I almost stopped reading this book after the first chapter. It felt like the author very systematically put every clue the reader would need for the rest of the novel in it. Stacked neatly and so blatantly obvious that

I love historical novels and I also love books with magical/paranormal elements to them, so I knew going in this book was going to be right up my alley!

The author created some truly unique world building elements. They were fun to read about and add to the historic time period. I also enjoyed the characters. Our hero and heroine were an estranged married couple brought together to solve a mystery. They had a tragic back-story that I was eager to learn more about. I love second chance romances! R

I was pleasantly surprised by this novel. I had no idea what I was getting into, but it was a part of a group of books I picked up at the same time so I just started reading. Of all the books, this one grabbed my attention and stuck. I loved the characters, the mystery, and the surprising elements, like glowing cats and ghosts. It was like one of my mother’s little cozy mystery books she loves and mixed up with the adventure and magic that I love. A fast read, and so much unexpected fun!

Just finished reading this novella. Good characters and some unusual ones, like Ivy the cat, and good storyline. Mystery and romance. It was different but too short wanted it to go on. I would read the next installment.

I wasn't sure I was going to read after the first chapter. The Preternatural stuff was weird to me, but I was sucked in after that.

Not my thing.

I gave this three stars because it was a good story and had me right up to the mouse/scorpion creature thing. Just couldn't go there.

This was a great read! It was full of suspense, mystery and love and a little of the unusual. I look forward to reading the next book by Kathleen Marks.
