The edition I read was a bit dated (copyright 1999), but still a great overview into what it takes to get a consultancy off the ground. Spoiler alert, it's a lot of work. If anything, it makes me admire the entrepreneurs I know even more for what they have accomplished. Next on the list in this genre is probably Peter Block. Elaine's book is generalized enough, but she does have quite a bit of example material from her particular industry (training, human resources, etc). I'd enjoy reading somet ...more

Very solid introduction to the nuts and bolts of independent consulting. Good mix of "know the basics" but also clear insights that allow you to have a jumpstart on the challenges you will face once you get past the basics.
