The insider's guide and perfect companion to the film starring Harvey Keitel, Mira Sorvino, and Vanessa Redgrave.

Stunning and surreal, Lulu on the Bridge is a romantic mystery with a lot on its mind. It is the story of Izzy and Celia, two lonely, wounded, and mismatched strangers, transformed into soul mates by the uncanny powers of a phosphorescent stone. Destiny, as well

This is the film book for a not-very-successful film. I love Paul Auster's work, and his film experiements with Wayne Wang on Smoke and Blue in the Face is an amazing use of words and moving images. Lulu on the Bridge, however, just doesn't fall in the same category. Auster tried to direct this one himself, and it shows. There are some good ideas involved, but the pace and the plot's incoherence strains even the most patient viewer.

Recommends it for: people who like surreal romances
I saw the movie before I purchased the book. This is a great story about two people that meet under odd circumstances and how a "magical" stone brings them together. The stone causes a deep connection between Izzy and Celia to the point of not wanting to live without one another. Unfortunately time passes and the stone leads them to heartbreak and sadness. A wonderful story you can read in one sitting. You won't want to put the book down.

it is actually a screenplay, but Paul Auster is talented enough to make a shopping list sound good.

I liked more than The Book of Illusions. It's surreal, but still good.

Stunning. Can't wait to see if the film is as good as the screenplay.
