His photographic sketchbook and personal visual diary, comprising photographs from the mid-1880s until the end of his life, constitutes a unique and profound artistic statement. This book includes a beautiful selection pictures; featuring most if not all of Mucha's most famous work. There is a good variety of posters versus ads, versus drawings and studies. The book offers interesting commentary on individual works and well-researched background info on Mucha himself. Another interesting aspect is the inclusion of photographs of some of the models who posed for Mucha's illustrations. "Alponse Mucha 1860-1939: Master of Art Nouveau" is a great book for fans of Mucha who...more

While I love Mucha, this book is just too short to do any justice to him as an artist. The text is short and shallow. The choice of the artwork is nice, but the colours poor. If you are really interested in Mucha's work, go for another book.

Great summary of Mucha's work. Limited only by it's small format.

Recommends it for: Illustration buffs with a nostalgic bent
Alfons Mucha is one of the most influential and revered illustrators in the history of the craft. His sense of graphic design has inspired artists for over a century, and his craftsmanship has set a high standard for anyone attempting to create images in the style of Art Nouveau.

With Alfons Mucha The Master of Art Nouveau, we get a historical look at the life and work of this legendary artist. Author Renate Ulmer delves into the life and times of Mucha with brevity and insight, pairing valuable...more

Another great Taschen introduction. Great color reproductions. Slim on the content, but really allows the reader to read the pictures more and appreciate Mucha's talents, in line, in form, in lettering and design. A beautiful, inexpensive book.

The brilliance of Mucha is done a grave disservice by the small format and poor book design. That said, it is nice as a quick reference of his work, with slim biographical information, with a few glimpses into his sketchbook and model photos.

A wonderful discourse on the times and the influences that formed Alfons Mucha, with many examples of his sculptural work that I had not encountered before. It was a gift from a friend who truly knows what I like! :D

O texto é curto, apenas introduz a arte de Mucha. Mas as imagens são de excelente qualidade, e o livro contém não só suas gravuras mas também suas fotografias, algumas das quais inéditas até a publicação do livro.

Small, but packed with good quality reproductions of the better known (and prettier) illustrations of Mucha's Art Noveau. Recommended as an a gateways for Mucha's work.

Very nice, although the colors were a bit on the dim side. The layout was very similar to the M. C. Escher book from the same Taschen collection.
Melissa
very little information on the artists. Other books offer the same information in more detail.

Good as a quick read and for pictures. Otherwise, you'd be better off with another book.
