This volume starts out with one of my favourite scenes from Fables - Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, and Cinderella gathering in a coffee shop, debating which of them was most screwed over by Prince Charming. It's a fun, playfully twisted view on the original fairy tales, and sort of sums up what the whole series is about.

Aside from that, though, this book continues a move away from the stories that Fables is based on, in favour of telling its own story using those characters. As such, we learn...more

(This review is for all Fables graphic novels)

If you ever wondered what it would be like if your favorite fable characters had to live and work together, you should read Fables.

In these graphic novels, many of our beloved fable characters have been forced to leave their lands and go into hiding in order to escape the evil Adversary. Now they live alongside your everyday New Yorkers.

Some of the graphic novels are mysterious "whodunit" stories, while others fol...more

i got 3-5 together, so obviously....

i just finished this one...again in a single sitting....and i have to say, that even though there have been some less than stellar thoughts about this book (on amazon reviews), i really liked it. again, like the previous 2 books, there are 3 different stories covered...2 large, one small.....and really, one of the large stories is a throwaway, but that's the one i enjoyed the most. it's one that focuses on bigby...it's stand alone, and it's just kind of ...more

The early tales in this volume see Bigby's war stories and Cinderella's true nature.

In the main story, we follow a year in the life of Fabletown. Charming wins the election and there's a new adminstration. Beauty and the Beast have a hard time learning the ropes and Charming sees that not all promises can be kept. Snow gives birth relocates to the farm with Rose. Bigby dissappears and the North Wind shows up to give some pointers to his grandchildren. This volume doesn't see the amount of ac...more

Arg. Great ideas, but far less than the sum of its parts. Remember at the end of volume 4, Snow White was going into labor with who knows what? Yeah, this book doesn't get back to that for 80 pages. One issue of middling Cinderella story, then two issues of random Bigby Wolf in WWII flashback. Once we do, though there's some cool story, the characters continue to act in that weird stretch-out-the-drama way you expect from a Grey's Anatomy type. Sigh. But it's not like I won't be back for more.

In this fifth collection of the Fables comic, elections are being held in Fabletown. Does Prince Charming have a real chance of winning? And if he does, can he keep all the campaign promises he makes? Meanwhile, Snow White is having Bigby's babies, but she's in for a surprise.

Another great installment. I'm really not that into series, but this one makes me want to keep reading. If you haven't read it... why ever not???

Date read is a guess. the continuing sagas of the Fables continues as we get the aftermath of the great battle, political changes afoot andSnow's dealing with her pregnancy. we also meet Bigby's father, and have a wonder, wonderful story about Bigby in World War Two that can only be described as Chaney-esque.

This is Willingham's best work and you really need to be reading it. highly, highly recommended!

Another great dark and humorous fantasy. Due to a spell by Goldilocks, Snow White and Bigby Wolf got it on a few books back (not that they really minded). Now Snow White gives birth to the wolf cubs. Prince Charming runs against King Cole in the mayor race and wins - it's going to be a long administration. There's also a one shot or 2, including Cinderella acting as a spy. Never a dull moment!

This collection looses a star b/c the artwork wasn't as strong here as it had been previously. Specifically, it seems that when Mark Buckingham is not doing the pencils, the whole concept suffers. Case in point: "War Stories" should have been great, but the goofy looking drawings of the wolf-man ruined the tone and atmosphere of what could have been a gritty, creepy tale of WW2.

not sure why,i think i got used to the trades having more flow, and packing what really felt like a bunch of one-shots together for me was hard on my narrative brain.

i loved the north wind and what not, but in the end i felt left hanging -- and moved on to Y: The last Man, so I'd best get back for I really wanna read Wolves.

Remember that time when Bigby got a weird WWII flashback story and Snow got put out to pasture to raise a litter of cubs? Yeah, that kinda sucked.

Bigby lets on to his WWII past with an old friend. Werewolf vs. Frankenstein, absolutely the most captivating Fables to date, and I must admit that Bigby Wolf as depicted during the 1940's is rather attractively drawn. ;)

Ending felt a bit abrupt. Otherwise, a good enough story. Mostly though, this sets up questions to be answered in later stories.

A bit of a breather after the dramatic prevous storyline. The focus on quieter stories is still effective and entertaining.

Not as good as book 4, but still very good, to bad too see Bigby's role reduced.
